Civitans Button Booth brings families back every year
For more than three decades, the
Plymouth Civitans have been helping
families chronicle their history at the
ButtonBooth during the PlymouthFall
Festival.
Families return year after year,
explained organizers, and the buttons
have become a tradition with festival
families during the past 30 years the
Civitans have been selling them at the
event.
“We started out using a Polaroid
camera and the photo was cut out to fit
a button or refrigerator magnet. Today,
we use a digital camera, computer and
printer. Besides the popular button
and magnet, our visitors have the
choice of a Christmas ornament and a
round or square key chain,” explained
Kathy Turnquist, wife of the booth
chairpersonGaryTurnquist.
“Our photographers do an awesome
job and numerous customers return to
order extra items for family - especial-
ly grandparents. These make wonder-
ful gifts,” she said and some families
revisit us each year to get new photo
buttons to add to their collection.
“These repeat customers have
become friends and we get the oppor-
tunity to catch up on all their news
over the past year. We have seen chil-
dren grow up, marry and then bring
their children to the booth for a but-
ton,” she added.
The Civitans have photographed
countless babies, pets and friends and
several years ago got a total of 24 faces
on one button.
