incredibly rich anddense filleddough-

served on Fat Tuesday, the day before
Lent.
Proceeds from The Polish Kitchen
will help with scholarships, Martin
said.
“If students can't afford the cos-
tumes and or classes, we will help
them pay. We have a scholarship pro-
gram for students entering their fresh-
man year of college. Our home office
of the Polish National Alliance offers
scholarships for sophomores and
above,” she said.
“The money that we raise at the
Fall Festival also helps our budget for
the entire year. We pay for building
use, our choreographers, costumes,
insurance and running the dance
school,” she said.
The group also schedules other out-
ings with the dance students, Martin
said. They go on a hayride in the fall
and when they perform at Comerica
Park, they stay to enjoy the Tigers'
game.
“At Christmastime, we celebrate St.
Nicholas Day. The children leave a
shoe for St. Nick to put a coin in, while
we have a pot luck Christmas party
andSt. Nick comes to visit,” she said.
She added that the dancers and
their families are a close-knit group
and plan activities all year for the stu-
dents, including the annual recital
which involves all the students and the
parents providing all the back-stage
andproductionwork.
