Volunteers begin barbequing chickens
in “the pits” early Sunday morning,
cooking the chicken coatedwith a spe-
cial seasoning recipe known only to a
select few. The first dinners come off
the military-like assembly line staffed
by Rotary Club members and volun-
teers from other civic groups and the
high schools at 11 a.m. Sunday, and
are served until about 5 p.m. or they
simply run out, which, Stella said, has
happened. The dinners also include
corn on the cob, a dinner roll and but-
ter, a bottle of water or soda and a
cookie, along with the necessary fork,
knife and napkin, all in the sturdy box.
The main delivery point is right out-
side The Gathering, across from
Kellogg Park but there is a take-out
location atWestMiddleSchool.
This year, the dinners are priced at
$11 if purchased in advance from a
Rotary Club member or at one of the
ticket booths located at the corners of
Ann Arbor Trail and Main Street or
Penniman Avenue and Main Street.
Dinners purchased on Sunday are
priced at $13. Presale tickets are also
available at Horton Plumbing,1382 W.
