“You know, I don't take this lightly. I
really do think it is an honor and a
privilege to do this, to have people dis-
play this trust inme,” Stella said.
“Every chairman says it every year,
but we just couldn't do thiswithout the
volunteers,” he said. “These people
just show up and know what needs to
be done and do it. Some of them we
only see once a year, but they are
there,” he added.
Stella also said that Gordon Food
Service is a tremendous donor and
help to the event.
“They give us exceptional prices on
supplies and their attitude seems to
be, 'Whatever you guys need.' For
instance, they provide the refrigerat-
ed trucks, which are crucial,” he said.
“We owe them a huge thanks for their
generosity.”
That generosity helps the Rotary
Club with this, the major fundraiser
for the club annually. Stella said that
he is proud of the fact that the money
fromthe chickendinners all goes back
into the community.
“We use the funds for scholarships
for local students, for local projects.
This is really a community effort.”
The menu hasn't changed much in
the 60 years or so that the Rotary Club
has been serving the meals. The din-
ners include a half barbequed chick-
en, cooked in the large charcoal pits
