College of Surgeons (ACS). As a Level
II Trauma Center, St. Mary Mercy pro-
vides ongoing injury prevention educa-
tion in the community. Having a Level
II Trauma Center in the community
also means individuals who are
severely injured receive advanced spe-
cialty care quickly.
The Trauma Center includes
around-the-clock availability of a com-
prehensive, specially-trained trauma
team and dedicated trauma surgeons,
rapid access to advanced orthopedic
services, neurosurgery and other spe-
cialized surgeries and the latest diag-
nostic equipment to manage traumatic
injuries.
Obtaining Level II Trauma Center
verification required time and commit-
ment - St. Mary Mercy began with a
provisional status and underwent a
thorough review from the ACS. The
entire process required hours of staff
education and the development of
close collaborative relationships
between hospital departments and
first responders.
Since receiving provisional status in
May 2014, St. Mary Mercy has treated
more than 3,000 individuals with trau-
