38th Art In The Park continues tradition of excellence
President of Art In The Park
Raychel Rork is undeniably proud of
the celebration of the 38th annual arts
festival this year.
The event, founded by her mother
Dianne Quinn nearly 40 years ago, con-
tinues to exemplify an appreciation for
all forms of creative arts. Rork noted
last year that this is an art event with
something for everyone. Again this
year, there will be a children's art sec-
tion located in Kellogg Park where
young artists and crafters will have
theirwork on sale.
Quinn began the event with a few
artist friends she invited to join her in
Kellogg Park for an outdoor art ses-
sion. That first year, just a few local
Plymouth artists participated, but the
next year there were several more and
the event began to grow exponentially.
This year, there will be more than 400
artists displaying and selling their
work at the event.
Quinn retired three years ago, leav-
ing Rork in charge of the event
although she still volunteers her help
and advice as needed.
Quinn said she left the event in the
best hands possible, after all Rork had
been working at Art In The Park and
attending the event since she could
lick an envelope to help contact artists.
Quinn noted at the time that there was
simply no aspect of the event that Rork
didn't understand and couldn't handle.
This year, again, the shuttle service
will be available with air-conditioned
buses, complete with lavatory facilities
and room for wheelchairs, strollers
and purchases, will be available from
the Burroughs’ building lot on
Plymouth Road. Riders will be
dropped off and picked up throughout
the weekend at Plymouth City Hall,
right in theheart of the festival.
“This is the best way possible to see
and enjoy the event,” Rork said. “That
would be my best suggestion for every-
one.”
The award-winning art show will
continue fromJuly 7-9with a full week-
end of exhibitors and entertainment.
Hours are from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on
Friday, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
