along with the Vera Bradley-style purs-
es and wallets. The bags will be priced
at about $20, she said, and have zippers
and two pockets, one inside that fas-
tens with Velcro and one on the front
witha zipper.
“I try to find themost colorful fabric
I can for the purses,” the young artist
said. She added that she will be work-
ing on the cross-body bags, wallets and
eyeglass cases for about 6 hours a day
leading up to the festival.
She began making the bags, she
said, about three years ago from a kit,
“but then I decided to use my own
designs.” She said she has been inter-
ested in art and in craft making, “for as
long as I can remember.”
Hermother had a brand-new, never-
been-used, sewing machine collecting
dust so Boynton decided she could use
that to helpmake her original bags and
purses. She went to her 17-year-old sis-
ter, Emily's ballet teacher, who loves
crafts, and got instructions on the use
of the machine and has been making
the bags ever since. She said she
caught on to the use of the sewing
machine pretty quickly and nowuses it
nearly every day.
Her sister Madeline, 15, is interest-
ed in nature photography while her
younger sister, Lydia, 11, makes and
sells lip balm. All of them are too busy
with their own activities to join her at
Art InThePark this year, Boynton said.
Her father, Mike, a police officer, is
handy with crafts, Boynton said, but
she agreed that her mom, “not so
much.” She said she continues to take
questions about the sewing machine
operation to her sister's ballet instruc-
tor and it seems to be working out well
as the bags are very popular.
Boynton, and her sisters, are home
schooled, she said.
Boynton said that she hopes to deco-
rate her spot inKellogg Parkwhere the
young artists will be set up again this
yearwith some bright colors.
“I think we are going to be near the
fountain,” she added.
