Community Schools. To help the
“Birds” achieve their “full band”
sound, he creates all of their backing
tracks and arrangements in his home
studio. Fernandez plays keyboards,
keytar, sax and flute and handles half
of the vocal duties. He has been the
musical director of several popular
area bands over the years, including
Channel Six, Party of 3 and Rustbelt
Revival. Spoehr is from Flat Rock and
resides in Trenton. After graduating
from Wayne State University, he was
the technical director of the Meyer
Theater at Monroe Community College
before retiring. Spoehr plays acoustic
and electric guitar and provides the
other half of the vocal duties. He was a
long-time member of the downriver
area's premier wedding band,
Lavender.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 23
Youth Performances: Romulus resi-
dents will display their local talent on
theFreight House Stage fromnoon to 6
p.m. Sunday. Selected performers who
sent in audition tapes will be given a
five- to 30-minute time slot to sing fami-
ly-friendly songs or acts.
Lip Sync Challenge: The Romulus
DDA Pumpkin Festival “Lip Sync
Challenge” is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday
on the Freight House Stage. The chal-
lenge is open to the public, who will
show off their lip sync skills to songs.
Prizes will be awarded for best cos-
tume, best lip sync and best overall
performance. The contest is open to
Romulus residents and students, who
must register their song choice in
advance by calling (734) 955-4531.
Competitors may be singles or groups
up to six people. There will be one
judged song per performer or group.
The contest will feature D.J. Jose as
master of ceremonies.
