Citizens Academy enrollment open
Canton residents who want to learn
more about how their police department
works will have that opportunity during
the upcoming Citizens Police Academy in
the township.
Individuals who attend the academy
will have the opportunity to learn the poli-
cies and operational procedures of the
department through presentations,
demonstrations andhands-on activities
This year, the Citizens Police Academy
will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays
for eight weeks beginning April 6 and con-
tinuing throughMay 25.
Class size is limited for this free pro-
gram. Applicants are limited to Canton
Township residents who are at least 21
years of age. Applicants must have no
felony convictions and no misdemeanor
convictions in the past three years,
Applicants will be subject to a background
check.
Applications for the academy will
accepting online at

the front desk of the Canton Police
Department located at 1150 S. Canton
CenterRoad.

Legislator hosts coffee hours
State Rep. Kristy Pagan (D-Canton) will
host monthly coffee hours at 7 p.m. the
fourth Monday of the month at Panera
Bread, 41950 Ford Road in Canton
Township.
Pagan has invited residents to join her
to discuss their thoughts and ideas about
how she can best represent and address
the needs of her constituents.
Patriotic volunteers sought
Plymouth Township officials are seek-
ing volunteers to lead the Pledge of
Allegiance at the start of the regular meet-
ings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of

Members of the only 3D photography
club in Michigan will meet from 7-9:30
p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Livonia
Civic Park Senior Center, 15218
Farmington Road, just south of Five Mile
Road.
The meeting will feature a workshop
by special guest speaker George "Dr. T"
Themelis onmaking andusing a top-quali-
ty digital stereo camera system. There will
also be a drawing for free 3D items and
themonthly club 3D image competition.
The meeting is open to the public and

Soul FoodDinner served
The Annual Romulus Soul Food
Dinner will be served this year beginning
at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Romulus High
School
The evening will include a special
BlackHistoryMonthpresentation.
The long-standing event, a tradition in
the community, was begun by a group of
volunteers from Cory Elementary School
in an effort to involve parents and build
community spirit.
Mayor LeRoy Burcroff and other elect-
ed officials attend and serve southern
style soul food dishes prepared by local
church volunteers. The event has contin-
ued to grow in participation and populari-
ty during the years.

Genealogy class offered
Experienced members of the
Northville Genealogical Society will host
an intermediate class featured new areas
of research from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Feb. 11 at the Novi Public Library, 45225

Hayden's donates toUnitedWay
Hayden's Grill & Bar of Canton and
Plymouth Community United Way are
partnering to raise funds for community
outreach programs. Hayden's will be
donating 15 percent of diners' bills to
United Way from 11 a.m. until midnight
Friday, Feb. 10.

to their servers to facilitate the donation to

Comedyworkshop available

Chili CookOff planned
The VFW Auxiliary will host a Chili
Cook Off from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the
Mayflower Lt. Gamble VFW Post 6695,
1426Mill St. inPlymouth.
Cash prizes of $25, $15 and $10 will be
awarded and there is no fee to enter the
competition.
All entries must be submitted in a
crockpot.
A $5 admission ticket will provide
attendees with all-you-can-eat chili and
three votes for the favorite.

Free legal advice available
A free legal presentation and assis-
tance is planned for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 15 offered by the Wayne Senior
Services Office, located in the HYPE
Recreation Center, 4635 Howe Road, in
Wayne.
Experienced legal staff members will
provide free legal assistance to seniors on
most civil cases including, guardianship,
conservatorship, wills, trusts, power of
attorney,
nursing
homes
and
Medicare/Medicaid.
Seniors must sign in by 12:30 p.m. and
attend the presentation in order to receive
additional assistance.
