As the New Year continues,
the City of Romulus is ready for
development.
The city will host a public
hearing on its firstmajor develop-
ment of the year next month.
Daehan Solutions, MichiganLLC,
is requesting a 10-year tax abate-
ment for work planned at an
existing facility at 10401 Harrison
Road, according to Romulus
Clerk Ellen Craig Bragg. The
project, with an estimated cost of
more than $14 million, will bring
153 new jobs to the community,
she said. The hearing is sched-
uled for 7 p.m. Feb. 27.
City officials also hope to see
additional movement on a couple
of projects initiated or
announced last year.
First, a new partner will be
working with Paragon Outlets on
the proposed Outlets of Michigan
retail center. That project, initial-
ly slated to get under way in 2016,
has been pushed back to 2018,
according to the Paragon web
site.
“It's still a live project,” said
Romulus Mayor Leroy Burcroff.
“It's stillmoving forward.”
Billed as a 350,000-square-foot
regional outlet mall, it will be
constructed at the intersection of
I-94 andViningRoad. The project
has changed slightly since it was
first approved by Romulus plan-
ners. The food court, once a cen-
tral part of the design, has been
eliminated.
“They're going to submit a
revised site plan,” Burcroff said.
“That'll be the real significant
change in the site plan. The
design will stay the same, pretty
much and all the prior work with
tenants and so forth is carrying
over to the new company.”
Paragon has not yet announced
the anchor tenants.
Work is also under way on
Artisan's Reserve, Inc, a micro-
brewery approved by the council
last year. Burcroff said renova-
tions are taking place through a
Downtown
Development
Authority (DDA) grant.
City officials hope to spark
movement on another prominent
downtown vacancy: the old
Romulus Market grocery store.
The site has attracted some inter-
est, Burcroff said.
“We have a good shell of a
building. There's just a lot of work
inside that's deterred a lot of peo-
ple frommoving forward with it,”
he said.
Burcroff, Romulus Economic
Director Tim Keyes and others
recently went to Lansing to dis-
cuss the project with representa-
tives of the Michigan Economic
Development
Corporation
(MEDC). Through that meeting,
Burcroff said Romulus decided
to enter into the Development
Ready Certified Community
Program and have already put
some staff members through the
initial phases of training.
“What they'll do is help you
market your community, once you
go through this,” he said. “We've
learned a lot. It's a long process,
but in a nutshell what happens is
there are grants and low-interest
loans that people can get through
this development-ready commu-
nity program for projects like
this.
“Our commitment to the cur-
rent land owner is to help him or
whoever he opts to sell the prop-
erty to through this process to get
grants and other things.”
Wayne County Commissioner Glenn S.
Anderson will be hosting a Coffee Hour
from noon until 1 p.m. in Inkster with

Michigan onMonday, Feb. 13. They will be
