Plymouth Ice Festival

Kim Kelp is preparing for a lot of
visitors to her recently-opened shop
during the IceFestival.
Kelp and her husband, Rick, have
planned a warming station in the rear
entrance to the new Plymouth General
Store where they will offer heat, hot
chocolate and Wassail (an English
drink made of hot apple cider and
orange juice) to festival visitors. At the
front entrance, off Forest Street, they
plan to set up a fire pit where crowds
can roast marshmallows and even
makeS'mores.
And on Friday and Saturday night,
the hand-held U.P. Pasties that the cou-
ple has been making in their Main
Street shop for five years will be avail-
able.
“We're going to have hot pasties all
night,”KimKelp said, “and I hope peo-
ple come on over.”
The new shop is the latest venture
for the couple who have owned U. P.
Pasties located on Main Street for
about five years. They needed a larger
kitchen to produce the nearly 3,500
pasties they sell every week. Demand
for the hand-made pies is increasing
and Kelp hopes to double her sales
with the larger kitchen at the new spot.
The pasties, which are either tradition-
al beef (made with top sirloin), vegetar-
ian (potato, carrot and rutabaga) or
white chicken breast are certified as
authentic by Greenfield Village and
