Entertainment, who organizes the
festival each year, had discussed the
market as a means of bringing visi-
tors to the festival last year but ran
out of time.
The Kelps are familiar with a
great number of local farmers mar-
kets and knew a large number of ven-
dorswho sell itemsmade in the state.
“We contacted several people we
knew and the market managers sent
out email notices for us letting ven-
dors know applications were avail-
able for the Ice Festival,” Kelp said.
“We got a terrific response and I
expect there will be about 20 vendors
in tents with theirmerchandise at the
IceFestival this year.”
Kelp said the vendors were com-
ing from as far away as Lansing,
Chesterfield and Grand Blanc for the
event.
“We're just going to line up along
Penniman in front of the Penn
Theater near the Gathering,” she
said, “youwon't be able tomiss us.”
The inaugural Winter Wonderland
Made in Michigan Market will be
open from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, from 11
a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and
from11 a.m. until 5 p.m. onSunday.
“If it's too cold, come on in to the
General Store at 472 Forest, we're
going to act as a warming station with
hot chocolate again this year,” Kelp
said. The General Store is also the
home of U.P. Pasties, which the Kelps
own and operate. The aroma of the
baking pasties usually fills the air
and the Kelps have a difficult time
keeping the hand-held meat pies in
stock. They usually have an assort-
ment of the traditional lunch fair,
including chicken, beef and vegetari-
an. TheKelps will have a booth up on
Main Street selling hot pasties during
the festival, too, she added.
“We're already working on the
pasties,” she said. “Last year, during
the three-day Ice Festival, we sold
from 3,000 to 5,000 pasties and I
expect to sell more this year. When
we are done, we will have about
10,000 ready to go at the festival,” she
said.
“Tell everyone to come seeus.”
