There are very few things the two artists from Outside
the Blox can't carve from ice and even fewer they haven't
been asked to replicate.
Bubble gummachine?No problem. Roses inside blocks
of ice? Easy. The large ice bar with the Svedka logo at E.G.
Nick's?Nothing to it.
And this year the 20-block ice sculpture of the Penn
Theater façade may take them a little more time than
usual, but Ditto, his professional name, and Paul Nuznov
of Outside the Blox, don't expect any problems in creating
the large artwork.
The pair will carve many of the sculptures seen
throughout the downtown area during the festival this
year, in various sizes and depictions of a multitude of sub-
jects.
“We've been partners in the business for about 5 years,”
Ditto said. “We actually met in the culinary program at
Henry Ford and competed in Plymouth as students during
the festival years ago,” he added.
“Both Paul and I are now professional chefs,” Ditto
said. “We do the ice carving as a sideline becausewe enjoy
the work.” He added that both use their professional carv-
ing skills in their respective jobs when the chefs provide
