Local audiences can view professional
actors from the Michigan Shakespeare
Festival in three classic productions this
summer.
The Village Theater at Cherry Hill will
present productions of William
Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar along with
Anton Chekhov's The Seagull three week-
ends beginning July 28. The productions
are in partnership with the 23rd festival
season of the Michigan Shakespeare
Festival.
“After the continued success of
MichiganShakespeareFestival run of per-
formances in Canton over the past few
years, we are thrilled that they will once
again expand their reach into the Canton
community this summer,” said Canton
Performing Arts Coordinator Joe Kvoriak.
“The return of this limited-run engage-
ment will give theater-goers in Canton the
opportunity to see professional Equity
actors performing classic theater in reper-
tory.
The Taming of the Shrew will be on
stage July 28 and 30 and Aug. 5, 10 and 11.
This comedy explores wealthy merchant
Baptista Minola's dilemma as to whether
to arrange marriages for his daughters or
not. His youngest, the vivacious Bianca, is
as desired as his eldest, the headstrong
Katherine, is feared. So the Paduan patri-
arch hatches a brilliant plan: no one will
marry Bianca until Katherine herself has
been to the altar. Enter Petruchio of
Verona. What follows is a hilarious battle
of wills and genders where victory means
learning the rules of the game. The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar will be per-
formed July 29 and Aug. 3, 4, 6, and 12.
This drama tells the tale of Julius Caesar -
conqueror, statesman, lover, and politician
who has been named Dictator for Life by
the Roman Senate. Fearing Caesar's rise
will doom the Republic, a conspiracy
forms to kill the great man. A play with
never-ending modern parallels Julius
Caesar, is a political thriller with ultimate
stakes.
The Seagull will be presented July 29
and Aug. 5, 12 and 13. Anton Chekhov's
satiric comedy The Seagull skewers views
of art and entertainment, and where the
two of them combine. A darkly funny
domestic comedy set at the turn of the last
century, the Michigan Shakespeare
Festival 2017 production is from a new
original translation.
Tickets are on sale now for the Canton
performances of the 2017 season, includ-
ing season Flex Passes, at
lagetheater.org. A Flex Pass will include
one ticket to each production, and show
dates and times can be chosen at the time
of purchase, or at a later date. Ticket
prices range from $16-$40, depending on
patron's age.

Michigan State Police are still investi-
gating a “mystery” shooting that took
place on Carlysle Street in Inkster earlier
thismonth.
The Inkster Police Department
received a call at about 7:20 p.m. June 5
reporting a shooting victim at 30336
CarlysleSt. in Inkster.
Michigan State Troopers, assigned to
the Metro South Secure Cities
Partnership, arrived at the address and
could not identify a victim or a shooting
scene. Troopers later learned from
responding Inkster officers that the
alleged victimwas uncooperative and was
transported from the scene to a local hos-
pital by unknownperson(s).
Detectives assigned to the Special
Investigations Section responded to the
Carlysle address and were unable to veri-
fy the victim's statements. A small amount
of blood was observed on the front porch
and a spent bullet was recovered, accord-
ing to police reports.
Officers said that witness statements
did not support victim's claim of two black
males driving up and shooting him.
Detectives are continuing to investigate
the incident. Anyone with information is
asked to contact 800 SPEAK-UP.
