WCCCD's rise to the largest urban com-
munity college district in the state and
one of only 16 multi-campus community
college districts in the nation.
“What better statement tomake than to
name this campus for him,” Ivery said. “I
have never ever met a greater person or a
person of greater integrity. We do not
honor Ted Scott today. Ted Scott honors
us with his grace, his dignity, his determi-
nation, his compassion, his love for peo-
ple and his steadfast advancement for all
that is right.”
Scott's wife of 58 years, Sharon P. Scott,
continues her husband's legacy at the col-
lege, currently serving on the WCCCD
Board of Trustees as treasurer.
Ted Scott attended the University of
Ohio on a football scholarship and played
football for the Army during his time in
the armed services. He moved to what
was Nankin Township when he left the
Army and became a township firefighter.
As the township became the City of
Westland, he continued with the fire
department, working his way up to the
rank of chief. Scott retired fromWestland
as fire chief in 1985 and then began a sec-
ond career as Safety Director for Wayne
County. Now, at 82, he is retired.
Situated on 117 acres, the Ted Scott
Campus is located just north of the
Haggerty Road/Interstate 94 intersection
in Belleville. Completed in 1981, the cam-
pus features state of the art computer
labs, a large multipurpose room, and
additional conference and career pro-
gramspaces.
