A Belleville man is facing first-degree
murder charges in the shooting at the Tim
Horton's parking lot earlier thismonth.
According to police reports, Mark Allan
Germano, 44, shot and killed Edward Allan
Kuehn, 38, also of Belleville as the victimsat
in his parked car at about 7:33 p.m. June 4.
Prosecutors allege that Germano shot the
victim with a handgun twice, once in the
head and once in the neck, before leaving
the parking lot. Reportedly, Germano's ex-
wife called police to report there was a vic-
tim of a shooting in the coffee shop parking
lot and that the gunman had gone into the
woods behindher home onBemisRoad.
When Van Buren Township Police
responded to the scene they discovered the
lifeless body of the victim in the driver's seat
of his vehicle. They were able to contact
Germano, who had in fact gone into a wood-
ed area off BemisRoad, using his cell phone
and convince him to surrender. He was
arrested without further incident, according
to reports.
Information developed during the police
investigation indicated that Kuehn, who is
survived by a 16-year-old daughter and a 13-
year-old son, had recently begun dating
Germano's ex-wife. The office of the Wayne
County prosecutor said only that the defen-
dant and the victimwere acquainted.
Germano has been charged with first
degreemurder and felony firearmoffenses.
He was arraigned on the charges at 34th
District Court in Romulus last week before
Judge Brian Oakley and ordered to undergo
amental competency hearing on June 15.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled
for yesterday before Oakley. A preliminary
court examination on the charges is sched-
uled for June 28 before 34th District Court
JudgeTinaBrooksGreen.

William and Jean (nee
Kobylasz) Wadsworth of Romulus
will mark their golden anniversary
with a trip toLas Vegas thisweek.
The couple met in October,
1965 at Ziegler Hospital in Detroit
just after Wadsworth returned
from his Army service. He was
employed at the hospital as a sur-
gical technician in the operating
room and his future bride was
working there as a Registered
Nurse.
They were married 50 years
ago on June 24, 1967 at St.
Cunegunda Catholic Church in
Detroit.
The couple purchased their
first home on Taft Street in the
Oakbrook Subdivision of Romulus
in October of that year. In 1980,
they moved to their Barth Road
home where they still reside.
They are the parents of three
sons, John, James andBilly.
Wadsworth retired as a ser-
geant with the Wayne County
Sheriff's Department in 2004. He
had been with the department for
38 years. His wife retired after
working at Oakwood Hospital in
Belleville for 25 years.
The couple attends St. Aloysius
Church in Romulus where they
are long-timemembers.
Wadsworth has served on the
Romulus City Council since 1983.
With voter approval, the Romulus
Community School District will be able
to make some needed repairs to facili-
ties for the next 10 years.
The schools have two millage
requests on the Aug. 8 ballot, both
renewals of existing levies, but at differ-
ent rates.
The first is a renewal of the Hold
Harmless levy that expired in 2016. The
district will ask for a reduction in the
millage, from 5.1314 to 2.5 mills. The
board has steadily worked to decrease
the Hold Harmless millage, reducing it
from 8.99 to 5.1314 mills about five years
ago, saidMarkEdwards, director of pub-
lic relations for the Romulus
Community School District.
“It'll definitely give us some financial
security to improve our school district,”
he said.
The second is a sinking fund millage,
which would be increased from .75 mills
to 3.0mills. Voters approved that millage
in May of 2012. It can only be used for
buildingmaintenance and typically pays
for large projects that would otherwise
drain the district general fund. The cur-
rentmillage expires in 2018.
“We have many things that need to be
fixed in our district, across all of our
buildings,” Edwards told members of
the Romulus City Council at their regu-
lar meeting last week. “Roofs, parking
lots, our football field-and we'd also like
to demolish theMt. Pleasant site.”
Sinking fund millages can also fund
technology upgrades, he said, and some
fundswouldbe allocated for that.
“We're trying to stay state-of-the-art,
21st century learning so our technology
definitely needs some improving, as
well,” he said.
The funds cannot be used for
salaries, supplies or equipment. He said
the sinking fund is necessary because
the general fund has seen cuts from
state and federal sources. Edwards said
the district has lost about $1.5 million
every year.
Edwards said some of the projects
planned if the sinking fund increase in
approved include new fire suppression
systems in all buildings as well as
repairs to the football field.
“Building safety is number one. Our
football facility is now 17 years old and
it's not been maintained properly. We
need to fix our football field because we
have concussions and many other
injuries that could take place and we
want to prevent that.”
New sidewalks and parking lots
across the district are also planned.
Other facilities will get plumping and
roofing repairs.
“We want to solidify our schools; we
want to protect our investment and we
want to work with the community and
the city to do this,” he said.
This district has more information
about the ballot request on its website,
including the ballot
language.
Romulus resident Virginia Williams
said she wished that language were a lit-
tlemore clear.
“The sinking fund has been .75. The
wording says 'up to 3.0 mills,” she said.
“What is it, up to 3 mills? Is it the 3
mills? Is it 2.5? It should be more clear. I
think the wording on any ballot, when
you're asking taxpayers for more money,
shouldbe clear so there's no confusion.”
She also pointed out that last year,
Wayne County residents approved a 2.0
RESA millage for school districts
throughout the county.
