Farmersmarket nowopen
The Canton Farmers Market opened
last week and will be open from 9 a.m.
until 1 p.m. every Sunday through Oct. 12
(closed July 2) at Preservation Park, locat-
ed at 500N. RidgeRoad, Canton.
This open-air-market features a variety
of Michigan grown and made food as well
as hand-crafted items. The Farmers
Market will take place rain or shine.

Balance classes offered
A Matter of Balance, an award-winning
program designed to reduce the fear of
falling and increase activity levels among
older adults will be available at no cost in
Inkster.
The free classes will take place from 1-
3 p.m. Wednesdays June 7 and 14 at the
DozierRecreationCenter, 2025Middlebelt
Road in Inkster.
Those who have concerns about falling
can register the Inkster Commission on
Aging, (313) 561-2382 to register.
Transportation for senior citizens in
Inksterwill be available on request.
Snackswill be provided.
The classes are sponsored by the
National Kidney Foundation of Michigan,
the City of Inkster and The Senior
Alliance.
Cancel Monday to appear
The Friday night Music in the Air
Concert series in Plymouth will begin at 7
p.m. Friday, May 26 with the group, Cancel
Monday performing Top 40 hits. Concerts
take place 14 Fridays throughout the sum-
mer, beginning in May and ending the
Friday beforeLaborDay.
There will be no concert July 8 during
Art in the Park weekend. All concerts take
place inKelloggPark and are free.
Audiences should arrive early to set up
personal blankets and chairs for seating.
Senior driving classes offered
AARP Smart Drivers Program is offer-
ing a refresher drivers' education course
from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday,
May 31 andThursday, June 1.
The fee for AARP members is $15, all
others, $20.
The course offers new rules of the road
for seniors along with research-based
driving strategies to help stay safe behind
thewheel. There are no tests.

Building experts to speak
Inspectors from the Canton Township
Building and Inspection Services Division
will be at Home Depot, located at 39825
Ford Road, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Saturday, June 3 to help answer resident’s
questions about home improvement proj-
ects.
Homeowners are required to obtain a
building permit for additions like a room
or sunroom or making an alteration to
your home such as windows, siding or
basement remodeling or for a shed,
detached garage or deck.
Permits are also required for installing
a pool or sprinkler systemor alterations to
electrical, plumbing, heating or air condi-
tioning systems.
Rental, Building, Electrical, Plumbing
and HVAC inspectors will be on hand
June 3 to help answer resident questions
one-on-one and the inspectors will come
equipped with code books and permit
applications. The session is free of
charge.
Senator sets town hall meeting
State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-
Taylor) will be hosting an Environmental
Town Hall at 6 p.m. Monday, June 5 at
BellevilleHigh School. All residents in the
6th Senate District are invited to attend
and discuss important environmental
issues in the state ofMichigan.
Several state- and local-level environ-
mental groups - including the Michigan
Environmental Council, the Michigan
League of Conservation Voters and the
Sierra Club-MI Chapter - will present
information on priority issues and ways in
which residents can actively work tomake
a difference in our communities.

Chamber hosts dock party
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce will host a Dock Party from
5:30-7:30 p.m. June 14. The event will
include the installation of the new board
of directors and serve as a kick off for the
annual Strawberry Festival in the commu-
nity.
The Dock Party will take place at
Johnny's Bar and Grill, 146 High S. in
Belleville.
The cost to attend is $10 for members
and $15 for non-members of the chamber.

GuidingHarbor sets fundraiser
Guiding Harbor is planning a 'make
and take' sign fundraising event at 5:30
p.m. June 13.
Participants will make homemade
wooden signs with vinyl sayings on 4-inch
by 24-inchboards.
A consultant will provide the needed
boards, paint and sayings and provide
painting techniques.
The cost is $25 for each sign and $10
will go towardGuidingHarbor programs.

Canton Liberty Fest opens
The 2017 Liberty Festival in Canton
Township will take place from Thursday,
June 15 throughout Saturday, June 17 on
the grounds of Heritage Park, located
behind the Canton Administration
Building at 1150 S. CantonCenterRoad.
This year, the festival will feature three
fun-filled days of great entertainment,
exciting rides andMidway games, organiz-
ers said, along with delicious food featur-
ing a Taste of Liberty Festival as well as a
variety of food trucks, two stages of live
entertainment, a spectacular fireworks
display andmuch, muchmore.
Festival-goers can purchase discounted
carnival ride wristbands online through
noon, Thursday, June 15.
The Megaband provides unlimited
access to all wristband approved rides,
during all three days of the event, and is
priced at $60. Megabands can only be
purchased in advance online.
Single day unlimited ride wristbands
that are valid for any one day are $22 each
online before the festival and at the carni-
val will cost $25 for Thursday, $27 for
Friday, and $30 on Saturday. All discount-
ed wristband online sales will end at noon
Thursday, June 15.

Wayne/Westlandwill celebrate
The annual Wayne Westland
Memorial Day parade is planned for 1
p.m. May 28 beginning at the Wayne
Ford Civic League parking lot. The
parade will travel downWayne Road to
the Veterans' Memorial at theWilliamP.

Plymouth parade salutes veterans
The PlymouthMemorial Day Parade
will march up Main Street beginning at
9 a.m. onMonday, May 29.
The parade will conclude at
Veterans Park at Main and Church
streets with a special program saluting
veterans.
Northville veteranswill march
VFW Post 4012 and American
Legion Post 147 members will lead the
Memorial Day Parade in downtown
Northville.
The parade steps off from Main and
Griswold at 10 a.m. sharp and will con-
tinue west down Main to south onWing
to West on Cady to south on First to
enter Rural Hill Cemetery where there
will be a ceremony at the Veterans
Memorial.
Volunteers are needed to hold flag
poles on the street just before the ceme-
tery to honor American veterans and
military personnel. A 50-flag salute has
been planned by the Northville VFW
and is a one of a kind event that travels
from community to community annual-
ly.

Inkster will salute servicemen
The City of Inkster will mark
Memorial Day with the 48th annual city
Memorial Day Parade to begin at noon
Monday, May 29.
The Inkster celebration is the sec-
ond oldest Memorial Day Parade in the
state. This year, the route will again be
down Michigan Avenue from Hamlin
Drive, eastbound, to Bayhan then
southbound to Trowbridge and then
east to Inkster CityHall.
The theme of the parade this year is
"Victory through Valor and Vigilance."
The parade is open to the public and
residents of surrounding communities
are invited to share in this memorial
appreciation to those who have sacri-
ficed somuch, a spokesperson said.
