Golfers aid Lutheran school
The 15th Annual Lutheran
High School of Westland Open
golf tournament is now accepting
reservations.
The tournament will take place
beginning with registration at 8:45
a.m. at St. John's Golf and
Conference Center, 44045 Five
MileRoad inPlymouth.
The day long event includes a
shorten start, 18 holes of golf with
a cart, lunch and beverage tickets,
a dinner with a cash bar, contests,
door prizes and favors, all for $135
per person or $110 for seniors
older than 60.
Sponsorships are still being
sought at levels from $100 to
$1,000.

RougeRescue needs help
Volunteers are being sought for
the Rouge Rescue which will
begin at 8 a.m. May 21 and contin-
ue until noon.
Plymouth volunteers will meet
at the Riverside Recreation
Area/riverside Comfort Station,
42401 Hines Drive, Plymouth, on
Hines Drive West of Haggerty at
RiversideDrive.
Volunteers will be cleaning up
theWoods Drive area of theHines
Parkway, including picking up
trash and debris, woody debris
management, invasive plant
removal, and storm drain mark-
ing.
Gloves and T-shirts will be pro-
vided for all volunteers and lunch
will be provided at noon for volun-

Park open to riders
The Wayne County Parks
Saturday in the Park program is
under way and visitors can now
walk, run, skate or cycle safely
along 6 miles of Hines Drive from
9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. every
Saturday. Hines Drive will be shut
down to vehicular traffic from
Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive so
that guests have the opportunity to
participate in their favorite activi-
ties in a vehicle-free environment.
The Saturday in the Park program
will continue through Sept. 24. All
ages can participate. Parking is
available at theHines ParkHelms
Haven Area located on Hines
Drive, west of Outer Drive and
Hines Park Nankin Mills Picnic
Area at Hines Drive, east of Ann
Arbor Trail.

State Rep. Kurt Heise will
meet with residents during Coffee

Toon Tunes &Tales presented
The Michigan Philharmonic
will perform a concert of Toon
Tunes & Tales beginning at 7:30
p.m. May 21 at the Plymouth Arts
and Recreation Complex (PARC).
The orchestra will perform in the
gymnasium as they did in the
1950s.
The concert will feature the
great music of cartoons and ani-
mated films. Many who grew up
with cartoons heard their first
opera or classical music perform-
ance onBugs Bunny - who can for-
get The Barber of Seville? Music
from other cartoons such as the
Jetsons and Flintstones will be
featured along with contemporary
favorites like The Simpsons and
Family Guy in addition to music
from Frozen, American Tale,
DespicableMe andmore.
Other tenants at the PARC will
be joining the Michigan
Philharmonic to celebrate this
first concert back in the former
Plymouth High and Central
Middle School including Forever
After Productions, Art Formed,
KrisKraf Photography, Main

Friends of the William P. Faust
Westland Public Library have
planned a sale of used books from
3 -6 p.m. May 19; from10 a.m. until
4 p.m. May 20 and 21 and from

The Thursday sale is for
Friends of the Library members

Sunday is $4 bag day.

Elks host RockNRide
The Plymouth Ann Arbor Elks
Lodge 325 will host aRockNRide
cruise-in benefit concert from
noonuntil 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21.

all proceeds fromthe event will be
used for the building fund.
The Cruise In is free to show
car and motorcycle owners. Any
custom, classic, exotic, cherished
vehicle is welcome. First come,

Chorus will present a Cabaret of

will host an evening of music with
Nessa, a Celtic fusion group that
re-imagines the ballads and

Social Security strategy is topic
The Belleville District Library
will offer a program of Savvy
Social Security Planning at 6:30
p.m. May 24.
This presentation will cover
different Social Security claiming
strategies, including "file and sus-
pend," the "do over," and "start,
stop, and restart". Married couples
will learn how to enhance lifetime
spousal and survivor benefits. The
presenter will also go over the
pros and cons of when and how to
collect Social Security benefits,
strategies to help maximize bene-
fits, particular challenges that
Social Security faces, and what
you can expect when you're ready
to start collecting benefits.
This is a free presentation and
no registration is required.

Seniors host bake sale
The Inkster Commission on
Aging will host a bake sale from11

Seniors driving class set
Seniors have until May 25 to
register for an AARP Smart
Drivers Course which will take
place from9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
June 1 and June 2.
The fee is $15 for AARP mem-
bers and $20 for non-members.
Students can renew driving skills
and learn defensive driving tech-
niques and proven safety strate-
gies. Participants will receive a
certificate of completion. Some
insurance companies offer dis-
counts for completion of the
course.

Paradewill honor veterans
The Wayne Westland Veterans
Parade, organized by the Veterans
of ForeignWars 3323willmark the
20th year of the event when the
line-up steps off at 1 p.m. May 29
from the Wayne Ford Civic
League parking lot at 1645 North
WayneRoad inWestland.
The parade will travel north on
Wayne Road then on to the
Westland Veterans Memorial
Garden behind the Westland
Library where there will be a
short memorial wreath laying cer-
emony.
The event is open to the public.

Plymouth veterans parade set
The Memorial Day Parade and
Ceremony in Plymouth is planned
for 8 a.m. Monday, May 30 when
participants will begin lining up at
Wing and Harvey streets down-
town.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m.
and march up Main Street to the
Plymouth Veterans Memorial
Park where a memorial ceremony
is planned.
This year, the parade is being
organized by the Plymouth Lions
Club, American Legion Post No.
391, Veterans of ForeignWars Post
No. 6695 and the Vietnam
Veterans of America Chapter No.
528.
