Meet the Grand Marshal
Festival volunteer honored for his community efforts
When it came time to choose the
Grand Marshal of the Sumpter Fest
this year, members of the festival
committee and Parks and Recreation
Commission agreed immediately on
their choice.
They overwhelming voted to honor
Dave Seegert, the division manager
forRepublic Services/CarletonFarms
Landfill andSaukTrail Hills Landfill.
Seegert has been helping the
Sumpter Township Parks and
Recreation Commission in preparing
the arena at the Sumpter Township
Fair Grounds for the Sumpter
Country Fest and is always willing to
lend a helping hand. He helps pre-
pare for the planned Demolition
Derby set for Sunday and Monday
and also prepares the arena for the
Don RochonMemorial Car Show and
Swap Meet that takes place annually
in September, along with another
DemolitionDerby.
Members of the committee agreed
unanimously that this was an oppor-
tunity to thank Seegert for his help
and show their appreciation.
Seegert has more than 29 years of
professional experience in the waste
disposal industry. He began his
career in 1986 as a paper picker at
the Adrian Landfill in Adrian and
came to Carleton Farms Landfill in
1993 as an equipment operator. His
responsibilities
continuously
increased during his career and he
was steadily promoted to Lead
Operator, Operations Manager and
his most recent role as Division
Manager.
Today, Seegert is responsible for
the management of approximately 50
employees that support the daily
operations of the Republic Wayne
County-based landfills.
Seegert was born and raised in
Michigan. He grew up in Deerfield
and recently became a resident of
Clinton. Seegert said he likes to
spendhis off-work hourswithhiswife
of 20 years, Debbie, at their cabin in
the northern Michigan town of
Harrison.

The Carleton Farms Landfill in Sumpter Township,
owned and operated by Republic Waste Services once
again this sponsored the fireworks display at the Sumpter
CountryFest.
Carleton Farms, which began with a 4.0 megawatt
landfill gas-to-energy plant in in July of 1998 now pro-
duces 6.4 megawatts of electrical power at the farm. The
electrical power generated at the plant is transported 1.5
miles at tied into the Detroit Edison distribution grid and
provides sufficient electricity to power more than 7,000
homes and businesses in the greater Detroit
Metropolitan area. The facility will eventually expand to
product 12 megawatts of power and will become the
largest internal combustion landfill gas plant inMichigan.
The 640-acre landfill first opened in Sumpter
Township in 1993. The landfill includes more than 90 col-
lection wells in place delivering more than 3.4 cubic feet
of landfill gas eachday.
