chandise.
Geitzen said the response fromven-
dors were great and about 20 agreed to
brave the cold temperatures during
theweekend.
“The Opera House is putting on
Hansel and Gretel at the PARC
(Plymouth Arts and Recreation
Complex) and there will be a warming
station there,” Geitzen said. “The
PARC has several events going on
insidewhere it iswarm.”
The feature that really attracts par-
ticipation, Geitzen said, has to be the
Sun and Snow ski run where instruc-
tors teach children to ski through a
specially-designedbeginners course.
“They offer all the gear the kids
need, lessons, coaching all at no cost.
You can't help but smile when you see
the kids' faces on the skis.”
“I do really enjoy the ice carvers, all
the events, but seriously, the best thing
about this event, and I say it every
year, is the sense of community. It's
always there at other events, but there
is something about the Ice Festival
that just seems to really bring that feel-
ing of being a part of a community
home. Seems unusual to say about an
event that attracts nearly 100,000 peo-
ple during the three days, but it's true.
