Native AmericanHeritage celebrated
Native American Heritage Day will be
celebrated from 1-5 p.m. Saturday;, Sept.
24 atNankinMills Park inWestland.
This is a free event but visitors are
encouraged to bring a lawn chair as seat-
ing is limited.
The North American Indian
Association will present drumming, danc-
ing, Native artisans displaying and selling
crafts, native food available for purchase
and other Native American interpretive
exhibits.

Tour d'Ville rolls
Momentum is building among bicyclists
from novice to expert for the Rotary Club
of Northville third annual Tour de Ville
bicycle tour onSaturday, Sept. 24
The Tour de Ville bike ride is a family-
oriented event, not a race, with all routes
beginning and ending in historic down-
town Northville, at The Village Workshop,
455 East Cady. Routes include 10, 30 or 40-
mile rides that travel exclusively along the
historic EdwardHines Drive. There also is
a 75-mile loop for seasoned riders that
starts in Northville and travels to Grosse
Ile and returns. The registration fee is $55
on the day of the event.

Members of the Romulus Garden Club
meet at 5 p.m. the first, third and fourth
Mondays of the month at the Romulus
PublicLibrary.

Newdate for beer tasting
Friends of the Wayne Public Library
has postponed the Beer Tasting fundrais-
ing to Sept. 30. Advance tickets purchased
for the August date will be honored in
September.
The event will now begin at 7 p.m. Sept.
30 at the library. The event will feature a
local brewing expert who will discuss the
craft brewing process. There will be three
specialty beers to sample, and pizza and
snackswill be provided.
Tickets are $15 per person and are
available at the Circulation Desk. Seating
is limited, so advance purchase is recom-
mended.

ScarecrowContest set
The City of Romulus will sponsor a
Scarecrow Contest during the month of
October.
Businesses, organization, individuals
and families are invited to enter a scare-
crow to helpdecorate downtown.
Scarecrows must be received by Sept.

City plans Fall Festival
The City of Wayne will host a Fall
Festival from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 1
throughout the downtown area.
Planned events include pumpkin paint-
ing in Derby's Alley (between GI Surplus
and Flagship Boutique on Michigan
Avenue, food trucks and carts featuring
gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and
other treats; a pop-up flea market behind
Helium Studio on Wayne Road and give-
aways and deals inside downtown busi-
nesses.

Chocolate Affair tickets on sale
Tickets for A Chocolate Affair, a benefit
for First Step, the program for counseling
and emergency housing for victims of
domestic and sexual violence, are now on
sale.
The event is planned for 2-5 p.m. Oct.2
at Meadowbrook Country Club, 40941

For the $30 admission ticket, visitors
can sample chocolate delights from
Southeastern Michigan restaurants, con-
fectioners and caterers along with choco-
late tastings and hot and cold hors d'oeu-
vres.
Entertainment will be provided by the
Sweet Adelines, Voices inHarmony.
The event is hosted by the Ladies
Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elizabeth
FaganDivision.

Kick or Treat planned
Kick or Treat, a Halloween Footgolf
Tournament, will begin with a 2 p.m. shot-
gun start Oct. 9 at the Par-3 course at
LowerHuronMetroPark inBelleville.
The entry fee is $25 per golfer and
includes foot golf and a barbeque dinner.
There will be prizes for the best costumes
or outfit, longest kick and closest to the
hole. There is an additional $10 fee to
enter LowerHuronMetroPark.
The 18-hole event is suitable for adults,
children and families.
All proceeds will benefit the Van Buren
Civic Fund, a Michigan 501 c 3 organiza-
tions which supports a mission to enhance
the quality of life for residents of Van
Buren Township. Sponsors are still being
sought.

Genealogist to speak
The Wayne Historical Society and the
Wayne Public Library will host a genealo-
gyworkshopwith JohnMills.
Mills will teach a workshop about fami-
ly genealogy from 6:30 until 10 p.m. Oct. 12
at theWaynePublicLibrary.
This is a free session and those who
plan to attend should bring notebooks,
tablets, laptops and information about
their family history.

Wine tasting benefit set
Tony Sacco's and Plymouth Community
United Way are joining forces once again
for aCraft Beer andWineTasting fundrais-
er from8-10 p.m. Oct. 14.
Tickets are $30 per person, andmust be
purchased in advance by calling (734) 453-
6879 or visiting the office at 960 W. Ann
Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth. They
accept cash, check, or credit cards. With
credit cards, purchases can be made
directly over the phone, and tickets will be
mailed on the same day.
Plymouth Community United Way will
receive 50 percent of each ticket sold.
Each ticket includes samples of a variety
of red and white wines, a selection of craft
beer samples and wine appetizers and
food samples.

First Step Fundraiser set
First Step will host a strolling cocktail
reception, hors d'oervres and a live and
silent auction from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 13 at
Northville Hills Golf Club, 15565 Bay Hill

Tickets for the event are $75 and a por-
tion of all ticket sales will be donated to
the building and operational costs.

All About the Arts revealed
A free concert by the Sweet Adelines
and local Barbershop singers is planned
for 7-8:30 Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the Western
Campus of the Wayne County Community
College District at 9555 Haggerty Road in
Belleville.
The concert series is open to the public
and refreshmentswill be served.

ResourceOpenHouse planned
Community Living Services in Wayne
will host free Resource Open House ses-
sions from 10 a.m. until noon and 6-8 p.m.
Oct. 20.
The sessions are designed to help par-
ents and caregivers of thosewith a disabili-
ty navigate the confusing mental health
system.
This is an opportunity for parents and
caregivers of children and adult children
with intellectual and developmental dis-
abilities to ask questions about how a per-
son becomes eligible to receive mental
health services, Medicaid and Medicare,
community resources, alternatives to
guardianship, transportation, school tran-
sition, staffing, budgets, employment and
muchmore.
This event is open to the public and not
limited to those receiving services from
CLS. A few confirmed vendors include the
Alzheimer's Association, The Detroit-
Wayne Community Mental Health
Authority, Community Work Opportunities,
CLS Peer Mentors, and the CLS Family
ServicesDepartment will be onhand .
