Lessons in respect
As America recently honored the lives lost during the 15-
year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Romulus
School Board President and Army Veteran Tom Kuderick
took time to help students born after 2001 understand
the significance of the events. Kuderick spoke to
Romulus students about patriotism, being active citizens
and taught them how to properly raise, lower, and fold
the American Flag. Students in Alexia Mancilla's L.I.F.T.
program can now properly handle the daily task of rais-
ing and lowering the flag. “I enjoyed spending time with
the students, they had an interest in their country and
wanted to learn more about the flag. The American flag
symbolizes freedom and is a constant reminder of the
opportunities and privileges we have as American citi-
zens,” Kuderick said.
Hundreds of area residents
participated in the recent Health
and Wellness Fair at the
Romulus Senior Center last
week. The free event targets sen-
ior citizens but was open to peo-
ple of all ages fromRomulus and
surrounding communities.
The day featured resources
and helpful information from a
variety of vendors including Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Michigan,
Senior Alliance, Corpore Sano,
Beltone Hearing Center,
Romulus Athletic Center, the
Lodge at Taylor, Regency Health
Care, Health Quest and many
others.
“We are happy to continue our
Health Fair again this year and
encourage all residents, not just
our seniors, tomaintain an active
and healthy lifestyle,” said
Romulus Mayor LeRoy D.
Burcroff.
Vaccinations for the flu and
shingles were provided along
with free blood pressure checks,
blood sugar screenings, raffles
andprizes.
“We had a great fair this year.
There were many free offerings,
prizes and give-aways that we
hoped would entice our resi-
dents to come and learn about
bettering their health,” said Rose
Swidan, senior services director
forRomulus.
