Men's groupmeets Friday
Mighty Men of Purpose and Power, Inc.
meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at High Praise
Cathedral Church on Moore Street in
Inkster where they sing, pray and strive for
personal growth, according to Dr. T. Cortez
Spann, president of the group.
More importantly, Spann said, the group
discusses "what they can do help make the
City of Inkster a vital and thriving commu-
nity where the citizens are not just con-
cerned, but actively involved with their
safety andwelfare."
He added that everyone is invited to the

Tour d'Ville rolls
Momentum is building among bicyclists
from novice to expert for the Rotary Club
of Northville third annual Tour de Ville
bicycle tour onSaturday, Sept. 24
The Tour de Ville bike ride is a family-
oriented event, not a race, with all routes
beginning and ending inhistoric downtown
Northville, at The Village Workshop, 455
East Cady. Routes include 10, 30 or 40-mile
rides that travel exclusively along the his-
toric Edward Hines Drive. There also is a
75-mile loop for seasoned riders that starts
in Northville and travels to Grosse Ile and
returns. The rider entry fee is $40 for riders
who register bymidnight on Saturday, Sept.
17. The registration fee is $55 on the day of
the event.

SwapMeet planned
ASwapMeet in set for 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Sept. 24 and 25 at the Dozier Recreation
Complex, 2025Middlebelt Road in Inkster.
The Swap Meet is sponsored by the
Inkster Parks and Recreation Department
and will include food vendors, a bounce
house, bake sales and 50/50 raffles.
Table rental fee is $10 and a spot rental
space is $20.

Senator sets coffee hour
State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-
Taylor) has scheduled a coffee hour for res-
idents to discuss state and local issues of
concern. Hopgood represents the 6th
Senate District, which includes Belleville,
Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, Huron
Township, Rockwood, Romulus, Sumpter
Township, Taylor, Van Buren Township,
and Westland. The coffee hours will pro-
vide opportunities for citizens to meet
Hopgood and share their thoughts about
current events in Lansing and the local
community.

Newdate for beer tasting
Friends of theWayne Public Library has
postponed the Beer Tasting fundraising to
Sept. 30. Advance tickets purchased for the
August datewill behonored inSeptember.
The event will now begin at 7 p.m. Sept.
30 at the library. The event will feature a
local brewing expert who will discuss the
craft brewing process. There will be three
specialty beers to sample, and pizza and
snackswill be provided.
Tickets are $15 per person and are
available at theCirculationDesk. Seating is
limited, so advance purchase is recom-
mended.

City plans Fall Festival
The City of Wayne will host a Fall
Festival from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Oct. 1
throughout the downtown area.
Planned events include pumpkin paint-
ing in Derby's Alley (between GI Surplus
and Flagship Boutique on Michigan
Avenue); food trucks and carts featuring
gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and
other treats; a pop-up flea market behind
Helium Studio on Wayne Road and give-
aways and deals inside downtown busi-
nesses.

Cemetery tour set
The Wayne Historical Society will host
the third annual Cemetery Walk from 1-3
p.m. Oct. 2 at Westlawn Cemetery, located
atMichiganAvenue andMerrimanRoad.
The guided tour will highlight promi-
nent African Americans from the Wayne
community including Jackie Wilson, Sonny
Banks and Nolan Strong from the Diablos,
who are buried at the facility.

Chocolate Affair tickets on sale
Tickets for A Chocolate Affair, a benefit
for First Step, the program for counseling
and emergency housing for victims of
domestic and sexual violence, are now on
sale.
The event is planned for 2-5 p.m. Oct.2 at
Meadowbrook Country Club, 40941 Eight
MileRoad inNorthville.
For the $30 admission ticket, visitors can
sample chocolate delights from
Southeastern Michigan restaurants, con-
fectioners and caterers along with choco-
late tastings and hot and cold hors d'oeu-
vres.

Sweet Adelines, voice inHarmony.
The event is hosted by the Ladies
Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elizabeth

Kick or Treat planned
Kick or Treat, a Halloween Footgolf
Tournament, will begin with a 2 p.m. shot-
gun start Oct. 9 at the Par-3 course at Lower
HuronMetroPark inBelleville.
The entry fee is $25 per golfer and
includes foot golf and a barbeque dinner.
Therewill be prizes for the best costume or
outfit, longest kick and closest to the hole.
There is an additional $10 fee to enter
LowerHuronMetroPark.
The 18-hole event is suitable for adults,
children and families.
All proceeds will benefit the Van Buren
Civic Fund, aMichigan 501 c 3 organization
which supports a mission to enhance the
quality of life for residents of Van Buren

The Wayne Historical Society and the
Wayne Public Library will host a genealogy
workshopwith JohnMills.
Mills will teach aworkshop about family
genealogy from 6:30 until 10 p.m. Oct. 12 at
theWaynePublic Library. This is a free ses-
sion and those who plan to attend should
bring notebooks, tablets, laptops and infor-
mation about their family history.

Wine tasting benefit set
Tony Sacco's and Plymouth Community
United Way are joining forces once again
for a Craft Beer andWine Tasting fundrais-
er from8-10 p.m. Oct. 14.
Tickets are $30 per person, and must be

6879 or visiting the office at 960 W. Ann
Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth. They accept
cash, check, or credit cards. With credit
cards, purchases can bemade directly over
the phone, and tickets will be mailed on
the same day.
Plymouth Community United Way will
receive 50 percent of each ticket sold. Each
ticket includes samples of a variety of red
and white wines, a selection of craft beer
samples and wine appetizers and food
samples.
