PATHworkshops offered
Person Action toward Health (PATH)
workshops are planned in September at
theWesternWayneFamilyHealthCenter,
2700 Hamlin Blvd. in Inkster. The six-
week workshop sessions led by certified
leaders take place on Monday after-
noons. They are designed to provide
skills and tools to help people living with
long-termhealthproblems.

Kung Fu classes begin
The City of Plymouth Recreation
Department will offer Kung Fu classes
from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through
Oct. 25 at the recreation center, 525
Farmer St. inPlymouth.
The classes offer Kung Fu basics
(stances, strikes, blocks, kicks, and how to
fall and roll safely) for both children and
adults, along with form and application,
practical self-defense and weapons train-
ing. Students are required to wear black
uniforms that can be purchased in class

Cost for the classes is $75 or $60 for city
of Plymouth residents.
Men's groupmeets Friday
Mighty Men of Purpose and Power,
Inc. meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at High
Praise Cathedral Church on Moore
Street in Inkster where they sing, pray
and strive for personal growth, according
to Dr. T. Cortez Spann, president of the
group.
More importantly, Spann said, the
group discusses "what they can do help
make the City of Inkster a vital and thriv-
ing community where the citizens are not
just concerned, but actively involved with
their safety andwelfare."
He added that everyone is invited to
the group and to bring a friend.

Hazardouswaste collection set
Canton Township will have its annual
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10
at the Canton Division of Public Works
Building, located at 4847 Sheldon Road
just south of MichiganAvenue. This event
is open to Canton residents only and ID
will be required.
Examples of acceptable waste being
collected at the event include, but are not
limited to, fluorescent light bulbs, oil-
based and latex paint, paint thinner, tur-
pentine, bug sprays, floor-care products,
expired medicine, computers and scan-
ners, dry cleaning solvents, rat poison,
household batteries, propane tanks, mer-
cury waste, antifreeze, brake fluid, diesel
fuel, kerosene, motor oil, and acids.
Canton will be unable to accept com-
mercial waste, construction debris,
explosives or ammunition, fire extin-
guishers, firewood, radioactive material,
smoke detectors, and tires. To obtain a

Genealogists research theworld
Curious about your ancestors? Think
you have to spend a lot of money or travel
all over to find out their history? Come to
the September meeting of the Northville
Genealogical Society to find easy and
inexpensive ways to research your family
around theworld.

Wayne County Commissioner Glenn S.
Anderson and State Sen. David Knezek
will host their normally-scheduled
monthly coffee hour event from noon
until 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at the
Leanna Hicks Public Library, located at

Church serves chicken supper
Willow United Methodist Church
members will serve a Chicken Supper
beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 14 at the church,

Members of the only 3D photography
club in Michigan have planned their first
meeting for 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept.
14, at the Livonia Civic Park Senior
Center, 15218 Farmington Road, just
southof FiveMileRoad.
The meeting will feature an open dis-
cussion about evaluating stereo images.
After a refreshment break, a 3D image
competition among club members is
planned.
The meeting is open to the public and
there is no cost to attend. Stereo cameras,
3D movies, and educational videos are

Veteran's Summit set
The 7th Annual Veterans' Summit will
begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon
Tuesday Sept. 20 at Westland City Hall,
36300 Warren Road, between Wayne
Road andCentral CityParkway.
The event will include discussions of
benefit eligibility, health care benefits,
disability benefits and new services.
Discussions will include information
about general changes at the Veterans'
Administration, financial and business
planning, community health resources
and a disability update.
The event is free for veterans and
their families although pre-registration is
required.
Veteran service officers will be avail-
able for one-on-one discussions.
