Coffee hour is set
State Rep. Kurt Heise will host a coffee
hour for constituents from 7:30-9 a.m. tomor-
row, Aug. 21 at Panera Bread, 20140

“Gathering feedback from residents is
one of the most important parts of a legisla-
tor's job,” said Heise, R-Plymouth Twp.
“Their perspective helps me to better repre-

Safe exchange site offered
The Canton Police Department is now
offering township residents a safe place to
conduct exchanges of items bought and sold
over the Internet.
The police department lobby will have
space where buyers and sellers on sites like
Craigslist and eBay can conduct the
exchange of payment and goods.
“It is always advisablewhen conducting a
business transactionwith strangers that it be
done in a public area,” police officials said.
“The Canton Police Department is com-
mitted to providing the highest level of serv-
ice and safety to our residents,” a
spokesman added.
The Canton Police Department lobby is
open and videomonitored 24 hours a day.
Potters host workshop
Village Potters Guild in Plymouth will
hold a third Raku Workshop from 5:30-9:30
p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 and again from noon
until 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the guild,
located at 326N. MainSt. inPlymouth.
During the 2 1/2 hour workshop, partici-
pants will choose from an assortment of
styles of pottery priced from $10-30 and will
then glaze their piece or pieces. The pots
will be kiln fired by guild members and the
creators can take the finished pieces with
them. No previous clay experience is
required.
There is a $10 registration fee and pot-
tery demonstrations and sales will be
included during the event. Register by call-

Ford Field Festival set
The Ford Field Festival, formerly the
Food Truck Festival, is planned for 5-10 p.m.
Aug. 21 and from 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22
at FordField inNorthville.
The event is sponsored by the Northville
Chamber of Commerce and will include the
various food trucks, live bands and a beer
tent.
Tino's Farmpicnic planned
The Constantino Del Signore Foundation
(CDS) will host the annual fundraising pic-
nic to help fund operations at Tino's Farm
fromnoonuntil 7 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 23.
The $15 admission ticket includes a bar-
beque chicken dinner, many other menu
items and entertainment from bands includ-
ing Second Wind and the Ticket. There will
also be games and raffles. The funds will all
be used to help operate the addiction recov-
ery residence.
The farm is located at 55880 Eight Mile
Road in South Lyon, abut a quarter mile
past the Northville border. The picnic is
open to the public.
Beer tasting brewing
Friends of the Wayne Public Library are
planning a Beer Tasting Fundraiser at 6 p.m.
tomorrow, Aug. 21.
Liberty Street Brewingwill host the event
including three featured specialty beers,
Starkweather Stout, Steamy Windows IPA
andRedGlareAle alongwith snacks.
Advance tickets are $15 per person and
are available at the Circulation Desk of the
library, 3737 S.WayneRoad,Wayne.
Teen pizza andmovie set
The Romulus Library will host a pizza
party and movie beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 22
for those 12 and older. The movie will be
Insurgent, ratedPG-13.
The event is free and 12-year-olds will
need a signed permission slip available at
the library front desk.

Ride for RedShield set
ARide for theRed Shieldwill begin at 11
a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 to benefit The
SalvationArmy offices in bothPlymouth and
Wyandotte.
The ride begins at The Salvation Army
Plymouth Corps, 9451 S. Main St., Plymouth,
and finishes at The Salvation Army
Downriver Corps, 1258 Biddle Ave.,
Wyandotte, between Northline/Ford and
GoddardRoad.
Registration, continental breakfast, and
building tours begin at 9:30 a.m. prior to the
11 a.m. ride. A barbecue lunch will be
served in Exchange Park, located behind
theDownriver Corps.
Donation is $25 a rider and $20 and
includes a t-shirt.

Diabetes PATHoffered
A free, interactive, six-week workshop,
PATH (Personal Action Toward Health) is
designed to provide skills and tools to help
people living with Type 2 diabetes and their
support systemlive a healthier life.
The first of the six workshops takes place
from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 the Wayne
Community Center, 4635 Howe Road in
Wayne.

Community gathering planned
The second Community Gathering in
Westland will take place beginning at 6 p.m.
Aug. 25.
Prior to themovie, GeorgeBrothers Band
will provide live music. Refreshments will
be available for purchase from Chicken
Shack, a local food vendor, and the park con-
cession stand. Free popcorn will be provid-
ed byMayorWilliamWild and city represen-
tatives will have information on hand about
various programs, services and upcoming
events. City officials will be in attendance to
answer questions or offer assistance.
The Disney computer animated movie
Big Hero 6 will be shown at about 8:30 p.m.
on a large inflatable screen.
Park It Movie Night will take place at
Central CityPark, 1901N. Carlson.
Bark For Life event set
BarkFor Life Cantonwill host a fundrais-
ing event beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at
Firehouse Subs on Ann Arbor Road in
PlymouthTownCenter inPlymouth.
The restaurant will donate 2- percent of
all proceeds of sales between 5-7 p.m. to
Bark For Life, a supporting event of the
AmericanCancer Society.
City selling surplus equipment
The City of Westland will be offering sur-
plus furniture and equipment during a sale
beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 in the
west parking of the former city hall building,
36601 Ford Road and at the Bailey
RecreationCenter, behind the old city hall.
The sale will continue until 5 p.m. on
Friday and will take place again from 9 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at both loca-
tions.

employees and their family members are
prohibited from purchasing any property.
All sales are final and all items are sold “as

Macy's helps library
Friends of the Romulus Library are join-
ing with Macy's for a Shop for A Cause day
Saturday, Aug. 29.
Shoppers can purchase a $5 coupon at
the front desk of the library and can then
save 25 percent on all purchases at Macy's
all day. Some exceptions do apply.
Funds generated from the fundraiser will
heop pay for youth, teen and adult program-
ming at the library.
Family Fun Festival planned
New Hope Family Fun Festival in sup-
port of Grief Awareness Day is planned from
4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 at Mill Race Village
inNorthville.
Tickets are prices at $25 for adults, $10
for teens and those younger than 12 will be
admitted at no cost. All proceeds will benefit
NewHopeCenter forGrief Support.
The family event includes live music,
games, a dunk tank, barbecue and candlelit
memorial tribute during the evening. New
Hope Center is a 501 © 3 nonprofit dedicat-
ed to provided support, education and com-
munity at no cost to those who are grieving
the loss of a loved one.

A four-week elder law series presented
by attorney Gary Allen is being offered by
the Plymouth Community United Way and
the Plymouth Community Council on Aging.
