Representative for aDay
essay contest nowopen
State Rep. Jeff Noble of
Plymouth announced his essay
contest for students in
Plymouth,
Canton
and
Northville.
The contest is open to stu-
dents in grades six through 12.
Students are asked to write a
minimum of 250 words and no
more than 500 on the topic
“Why do you like living in
Michigan?” Essays should be
submitted by mail or email by
Sept. 1 and must include stu-
dent's name, address, email or
phone number, school and
grade level.
The winner will be
announced on Sept. 18 and
invited to Lansing to be a state
representative for a day this fall.

Identity theft protection discussed
State Rep. Jeff Noble of
Plymouth has scheduled a con-
sumer education event on iden-
tity theft at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.
15, in partnership with the
Michigan Attorney General's
office.
The presentation will feature
information on how to protect
against identity theft and what
steps to take in the event you
become a victimof this crime.
“Identity theft is a serious
issue that can negatively impact
your credit and pocketbook,”
Noble said. “I want to provide
this opportunity for residents to
learn how to protect their per-
sonal information, both on and
offline. The presentation will
focus on best practices, how to
recognize common warning
signs of identity theft scams, and
offer helpful resources should
youneed assistance.”
There is no charge to attend
the meeting at the Plymouth
District Library, 223 S. Main St.
in Plymouth. Individuals look-

Health Fair vendors sought
The Romulus Senior Center
Annual Health Fair is now
accepting vendors for the event
planned for Oct. 10.
Health professionals can
highlight their companies with
the senior community. Table
space rental is $100. Gifts to be
raffled off are also being sought.
Set up will begin at 9 a.m.
and the fair will be open from
9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Lucky Duckys to race
The Rotary Club of Belleville
will sponsor the annual Lucky
Ducky Rubber Duck Race on
Belleville Lake at 6:30 p.m. Aug.
17, as part of the Annual
Belleville Bridge Walk and
Taste of Belleville.
Entries in the Lucky Ducky
race will cost $5 each, or five for
$20 and all proceeds from ticket
sales are used to help fund proj-
ects in the local community.
Prizes for the winning ducks
will include a $1,000 cash award
to the first-place duck; $250 to
the second place duck and $100
to the thirdplace duck.
Each ticket purchased puts
one lucky duck into the race of
1,100 rubber ducks in the lake at
Horizon Park and winners need
not be present to claim their
prizes.

Tickets will also be sold on the
day of the race.
Sales of fewer than 500 tick-
etswill result in a 50/50 payout.

BridgeWalk, Taste of Belleville set
The annual Belleville Bridge
Walk will begin at Doane's
Landing at Main and Liberty
streets at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17. After
the walk, the Taste of Belleville
will take place on High Street
from 6-8 p.m. Belleville restau-
rants will offer samples of their
wares during the event which
will also feature a Kids Activity
Tent manned by the Van Buren
Township Parks and Recreation
staff. There will also be a spe-
cialty game for kids provided by
theBellevilleKiwanis.
The BridgeWalk and Taste of
Belleville are sponsored by The
City of Belleville, the Belleville
Downtown
Development
Authority, Tucker Agency and
TwistedRooster.
Ride for RedShieldSaturday
The Annual Ride for the Red
Shield, a fundraiser for The
Salvation Army will begin with
sign-in at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
19 at 1258 Biddle Ave. in
Wyandotte. Riders will depart
from the Wyandotte Salvation
Army at 11 a.m. and stop at the
Plymouth office before ending
at BaggerDave's.
Registration cost is $30 per
ride and $25 per passenger
which includes a continental
breakfast and lunch.

Art entry deadline nears
The Village Theater at
Cherry Hill is now accepting
entries for the 25th Annual
Canton Fine Arts Exhibition,
which will be on display Oct. 6 -
Nov. 4. Entries for the exhibi-
tion will be accepted through
Aug. 21. Michigan artists can
enter their work online at

All media is accepted for the
exhibition. Only digital image
files on CDs or USB drives will
be accepted for review. Work
submitted on CDs/USB drives
must be in JPEG format and 300
dpi. No slides will be accepted
for consideration. Paintings and
hangings should not exceed 5
feet wide or 6 feet high, 40
pounds in weight and must be
properly and appropriately
framed and prepared for hang-
ing. Sculpture dimensions must
not exceed 5-feet by 5-feet by 6
feet and 200 pounds in weight.
Original works of art must have
been completed in the last three
years. A non-refundable entry
fee of $15 for each submitted
piece is required.
The competition will award
$1,950 in cash prizes: Best of
Show $750; Second Place $500;
Third Place $300; two
Honorable Mentions of $100
each and four Merit Awards of
$50 each. The Postmark/Hand
Delivery deadline for entries is
Aug. 21. Juried result notifica-
tionwill bemailedby Sept. 8.

Belleville reunion planned
Belleville High School alum-
ni have only until Aug. 26 to pur-
chased tickets for the reunion
planned for Saturday, Sept. 16
in the Belleville High School
Commons.
A social gathering is set for 2-
4:45 p.m. and dinner from 5-8
p.m.
Tickets are priced at $20 per
