Safe exchange site offered
The Canton Police Department is now
offering township residents a safe place to
conduct exchanges of items bought and
sold over the Internet.
The police department lobby will have
space where buyers and sellers on sites
like Craigslist and eBay can conduct the
exchange of payment and goods.
"It is always advisable when conduct-
ing a business transaction with strangers
that it be done in a public area," police
officials said.
"The Canton Police Department is
committed to providing the highest level
of service and safety to our residents," a
spokesman added.
The Canton Police Department lobby
is open and video monitored 24 hours a
day.
Jazz concerts are Sunday
The Jazz in the Park Summer Concert
Series will continue through Aug. 30 in
KelloggPark indowntownPlymouth.
Admission to the concerts is free and
three different jazz acts will performeach
week. Acts appearing include; Alex

CAMPprogramoffered
Northville Youth Assistance is sponsor-
ing a program that will help incoming
sixth graders build personal, academic,
and life management skills necessary to
successfully transition to middle school.
The goals of the CAMP Program are to
help participants learn skills to be suc-
cessful middle school students, including
the use of a planner, opening lockers, goal
setting, communication, time manage-
ment skills, becoming comfortable with
the layout of the school and meeting mid-
dle school staff.
CAMP Hillside and Meads Mill will
take place at each school Aug. 10-14. The
cost to participate is $170, and scholar-
ships are available if this presents a finan-
cial hardship. Spaces are limited, and

Book club tomeet
The Second Monday Book Club will
meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Romulus
Library for a discussion of A Change in
Altitude byAnita Shreve.
Book discussions are free and open to
all ages 18 and older.

Morningwithmayor set
Westland Mayor William R. Wild will
meet informally with residents over a cup
of coffee from9-10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 at

Weather permitting, the gathering will
take place on the grounds of city hall at

Themeetings are planned to allow citi-
zens to discuss matter of importance
regarding city services or programs and
events. The meetings have been very pop-

Teen resumes are topic
Resume Building for Teens will be the
topic of a free workshop with Tiffany
Banks from Michigan Works at 10:15 a.m.
Aug. 11 at theRomulus Library.
Banks will discuss formatting, content
and the appropriate presentation of
resumes to potential employers for teens
through age 19.

City sponsors golf outing
The City of Plymouth Department of
Recreation is hosting a Golf Outing with a
9:30 a.m. shotgun start Thursday, Aug. 13
at the Inn at St. John's.
The cost is $125 per person or $500 for
a foursome which includes a cart, or two
for a foursome, golf, door prize, awards,
on-course beverages, lunch, dinner, 50/50
raffle, prize raffles and memories. All
proceeds go to recreation programs, sup-
plies, equipment, and facility improve-
ments.
Teams of golfers and hole sponsors,
along with raffle prizes are being sought.

Ford Field Festival set
The Ford Field Festival, formerly the
Food Truck Festival, is planned for 5-10
p.m. Aug. 21 and from 2-10 p.m. Aug. 22 at
FordField inNorthville.
The event is sponsored by the
Northville Chamber of Commerce and
will include the various food trucks, live
bands and a beer tent.
Tino's Farmpicnic planned
The Constantino Del Signore
Foundation (CDS) will host the annual
fundraising picnic to help fund opera-
tions at Tino's Farm from noon until 7
p.m. Aug. 23.
The $15 admission ticket includes a
barbeque chicken dinner, many other
menu items and entertainment from
bands including Second Wind and The
Ticket.
There will also be games and raffles.
The funds will all be used to help operate
the addiction recovery residence.
The farm is located at 55880 Eight Mile
Road in South Lyon, about a quarter mile
past the Northville border. The picnic is
open to the public.

Opening Night
Premiere show planned at PARC
Forever After Productions will present
a cabaret dinner theater Aug. 7-9 and Aug.
14-16 at the Plymouth Arts andRecreation
Complex, 650ChurchSt., Plymouth.
Cabaret At The PARC is the very first
performance at the new complex located
in the former Central Middle School in
downtown Plymouth and will be a "grand
opening" of the complex for the public. A
grassroots effort purchased the building
and surrounding grounds from the
Plymouth Canton community Schools in
an effort to preserve the history of the
school and provide cultural, recreational
and sports opportunities to area groups.
Forever After is one of the first tenants in
the building, along with the Michigan
Philharmonic.
The showwill feature highlight favorite
Broadway shows and composers and will
include a catered dinner. Tickets are $35
