from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Sunday
through Oct. 12 (closed July 2) at
Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge

This open-air-market features a variety

The Northville Summer Friday Night
Concert Series - presented by Tom Holzer

StandUpSummer Camp set
A camp for empowering young people to
find their voice featuring art, music and
poetry will take place through July 28 at
HolyRedeemer Church.
The camp is open to students in first
through sixth grades living inBelleville. The
cost is $5 per week or $25 for the summer.
Older youths are being sought as volunteer
junior leasers.
The camp will take place from 10 a.m.
until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
Lunchand snackswill be provided.
Adult volunteers are needed and regis-
tration is on a first come basis.

esssay contest nowopen
State Rep. Jeff Noble of Plymouth
announced his essay contest for students in
Plymouth, Canton andNorthville.
The contest is open to students in grades
six through 12. Students are asked to write a
minimum of 250 words and no more than
500 on the topic "Why do you like living in
Michigan?" Essays should be submitted by
mail or email by Sept. 1 and must include
student's name, address, email or phone
number, school and grade level.
The winner will be announced on Sept.
18 and invited to Lansing to be a state repre-

Community Band sets concerts
The Belleville Community Bandwill per-
form a second summer concert this year at
BellevilleFirst UnitedMethodist Church.
The free concert is set for 3 p.m. July 30.

have invited Alfred Brock to speak about a
famous Wayne Founding family, Pvt. Ezra E.
Derby, a Civil War Soldier and son of early

The Wayne Historical Society members
will host an Ice Cream Social from 1-3 p.m.
Saturday, July 29. The event is sponsored by
theFriends of theWaynePublic Library and
the Wayne Historical Society. The event is
open to the public andwill include activities
like jump rope, Hula Hooping with Irene,
hopscotch and chalk art, along with ice
cream provided by Fresh Choices Food
Center. The event will take place at the out-
door pavilion at theWaynePublicLibrary.

The Plymouth District Library will pres-
ent What's Up in the Universe? At 1 p.m.

Concours d'Elegance returns
The 39th Annual Concours d'Elegance of
America will take place July 28-30 at the Inn
at St. John's inPlymouth.
The show is one of the most recognized
automotive events in the world and the
weekend is filled with more than 15 events
sure to excite automobile enthusiasts of all
ages, including; a Motoring Tour, Cars and
Coffee, Concorso - Italian Date Night and
others.
This year, Concours field will host 300 of
the rarest and exotic collectible automobiles
fromaround theworld.

Woodstock Revisited festival planned
Woodstock Revisited Family Festival is
set for 3-10 p.m. Saturday Aug. 5 at Van
Buren Eagles 3996 located at 9961 Beck
Road inBelleville.
Admission is $10 if purchased in advance
or $15 if purchased at the gate. Children 15
and younger are admitted free.
There will be three bands entertaining
on the lawn, The Classics, SecondWind and
Repeat Offenders alternating sets all day.
There will also be a bounce house for chil-
dren, and Joelene from Cat's Meow Face
Painting will be on site during the after-
noon.
There will be a cash prize for the best
hippie outfit.
Visitors must be 21 to consume alcohol
and no outside food, drinks or coolers will
be allowed.

Senior's Day at market
The Westland Farmers and Artisans
Market will welcome senior citizens for
some special activities during Senior's Day
from3-7 p.m. Aug. 10.
Along with more than 30 vendors and
artisans, there will be special veteran's
health and fitness exercises and local
experts on nutrition. The Market Bounty
Raffle will award one lucky senior a basket
full of market goodies donated by vendors.
The market takes place at 1901 N. Carlson,
south of Ford Road in Central City Park.
Vendors will be selling produce, plants,
fresh foods and crafts. There is live music

Lifeline screenings offered
Residents living in and around the
Wayne area can learn about their risk for
cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, dia-
betes, and other chronic, serious conditions
with affordable screenings Aug. 10 by Life
Line Screening. Hype Recreation Center
will host the community event at 4635 Howe
Road inWayne.
Screenings are affordable, convenient
and accessible for wheelchairs and those
with trouble walking. Free parking is also

Belleville High School alumni have only
until Aug. 26 to purchase tickets for the
reunion planned for Saturday, Sept. 16 in

Battle for Belleville planned
Representatives of Yankee Air Museum
and the Belleville Area Museum will team
up at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 for the annual
World War II Reenactment, The Battle for
Belleville.
Military vehicles and re-enactors will
caravan down Belleville Road and attempt
to liberate the local history museum from
Nazi troops. Both events lead up to the
Thunder Over Michigan Air Show, which
takes place, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2-3
at theYankeeAirMuseum.
Market celebrates autumn
The Westland Farmers and Artisans
Market will celebrate autumn with a Fall
Festival planned from3-7 p.m. Sept 14.
Along with more than 30 vendors and
artisans, there will be special seasonal
items during the day. An autumn floral
arrangements donated by My Lady's Florist
will be awarded to the winner of a raffle
plannedduring the day.
