Cardboard boat races ‘shove off ’
The Third Annual Cardboard Boat Race
is scheduled to take place beginning at 9:30
a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Summit on the
ParkAquaticCenter.
Participants are encouraged to use cre-
ative teamwork to build a boat using only
cardboard and duct tape prior to the event.
Boats should be less than 5.5 feet wide by 10
feet long. Cardboard boats must be built at
home and then transported to the Summit
to compete. Paddles will be provided for
participants and boats can be raced by one
or two individuals. Competitors will be
divided up into two age categories: ages 8
and under and ages 9 and above. Awards
will be given out in both age groups to the
fastest and most creative boats. In addition,
the most dramatically sinking boat will
receive the Titanic Award in each age
group.
“All ages are encouraged to try their
hand at this fun and challenging event,”
said Brad Chiasson, recreation specialist.
“The outcome is always both entertaining
and inspiring. It's great to see teams work-
ing together and the competition makes it
evenmore enjoyable. These races are real-
ly fun for contestants and spectators alike.”
Assistance finding cardboard material is
available by phoning (734) 394-5467.The
entry fee for this event is $10 for Summit
members, $15 for Canton residents, and $20
for non-residents.
The Summit Aquatic Center features a
25-yard lap pool, zero depth leisure pool,
lazy river, waterslide, andhot tub.

The Third Annual Rally on
Ridge at Preservation Park is set
for 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 26. The
event is an evening of food, music,
and entertainment and is a benefit
for the the Canton Farmers
Market.
Entertainment this year
includes live acoustic music, gour-
met food trucks, games for the
kids, and more. Attendees should
bring a lawn chair or picnic blan-
ket to enjoy themusic.
“Community interest in this
event has grown, so we are offer-
ing more food and fun tomeet this
demand, which is why we are pro-
gramming at both the Cherry Hill
School property and adding the
Farmers Market location at
Preservation Park this year,” said
Farmers Market Coordinator
Amanda Campana. “It's the per-
fect event for showcasing the
home of the Canton Farmers
Market while building community
support formarket programming.”
“The Cherry Hill School House
area will play host to our 'Tiny
Diners Courtyard', which will
include food vendors and menu
items that are super kid-friendly -
think pizza, mac and cheese, hot
dogs, and ice cream. This areawill
also feature face painters, bounc-
er, games, and other children's
activities. More adventurous din-
ers can visit Preservation Park to
find vendors featuring deliciously
gourmet menus and live music
performed by beloved market
artists. No need to choose just one
stop, stroll between the two
locales or hop on one of our shut-
tles to enjoy them both,” said

A portion of the proceeds col-
lected from food vendor sales dur-
ing this family-friendly fundraiser
will benefit the Canton Farmers
Market, which is currently cele-
brating its 10th season. With the
recent influx in “buy local” initia-
tives, the Canton Farmers Market
is seeing an increase in both the
number of participating growers
and in customers. Themarket con-
tinues to expand offerings from 9
a.m. until 1 p.m. every Sunday,
rain or shine, throughOct. 16.
