Golfers aid Lutheran school
The 15th Annual Lutheran High School
of Westland Open golf tournament is now
accepting reservations.
The tournament will take place begin-
ning with registration at 8:45 a.m. at St.
John's Golf and Conference Center, 44045
FiveMileRoad inPlymouth.
The day long event includes a shorten
start, 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch and
beverage tickets, a dinner with a cash bar,
contests, door prizes and favors, all for
$135 per person or $110 for seniors older
than 60.
Sponsorships are still being sought at
levels from$100 to $1,000.

StampOut Hunger Saturday
Local letter carriers will be taking part
in the annual Stamp Out Hunger cam-
paign this Saturday, May 14.
The annual effort collects non-expired,
non-perishable food and personal care
items from area homes and delivers them
to local agencies for distribution to the
needy.
This year the mail carriers will pick up
the items at area mailboxes and in
Belleville, Van Buren and Sumpter, the
items will be taken to First United
Methodist Church where the Food Pantry
assists the community.
To participate, residents need only
leave a bag of items by themailbox for pick
upbymail carriers.
In Canton and Plymouth townships and
the City of Plymouth, the donations will
stock the shelves at The Salvation Army
and at Plymouth Senior Services. In
Northville andNorthville Township, dona-
tions will help the Northville Civic
Concern foodbank.

Relay for Life set
The Relay For Life of Belleville will
take place from noon until midnight
Saturday, May 14 in the downtownHorizon
Park area.
There will be live music, an exercise
class and other entertainment all day
along with fundraisers including a silent
auction.
A survivor caregiver lap is planned.

Students host radio auction
A golf outing at the Grand Hotel, auto-
graphed memorabilia, restaurant gift
cards and services from local businesses
will highlight the 28th annual Radio
Auction from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday,
May 14.
The radio auction is a benefit for 88.1
The Park, the student-operated station of
the Plymouth-Canton Community School
District. This year, the auction will be pre-
sented by Robert Bosch LLC, Diesel
Division.
Auction items have been donated by
local businesses with new item available
every half hour along with a DreamBoard
with more unique items available to bid-
ders all day.
The station has been operating for 44
years, according to Station Manager Bill
Keith. He added that anyone with an idea
or donation for the auction can contact the

Community Band to perform
The Plymouth Community Band will
perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May
13 at Plymouth First United Methodist
Church.

Craft Showbenefits veterans
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit
396will sponsor a Spring Craft andVendor
Show from20 a.m. until 3 p.m. May 14 at St.
Mel's Church, 7506 Inkster Road in
DearbornHeights.
The church is on Inkster Road, north of
WarrenAvenue.
Therewill be a bake sale, food available
for purchase a 50/50 drawing and raffles.
Admission to the event is $1 and all pro-
ceeds are used to help veterans and their
families.

Used tires collected
The Wayne County Department of
Public Service (DPS) will collect used tires
from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. May 14 at the
Canton Division of Public Works Building
located at 4847 Sheldon Road. All tires
including car, bicycles, wheelbarrow, and
golf cart tires will be accepted with or
without the rims attached.
The free collection is open to Canton
residents only and IDwill be checked. For

Marquis TheatreGala planned
The Marquis Theatre in Northville will
present a tribute to the 1920s with cabaret
performances by the Marquis Theatre
Kids and professional guest artists from 7-
10 p.m. May 14.
Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance
or $35 at the door. Appetizers will be
served along with special toasts and raf-
fles.
All proceeds will benefit the preserva-
tion of the historic Marquis Theatre, locat-

Bark in the Park set
Bark in the Park is planned for 11 a.m.
until 1 p.m. May 15 at the CantonDog Park,
located on Denton Road just north of
CherryHill Road inCanton .
The event will include live entertain-
ment, vendors and give-a-ways from local
pet supply and service vendors. Members
of theDog Park and non-members arewel-
come at the event but must show proof of
up-to date vaccination for rabies and
DHLPP, signed by an accredited veterinar-
ian. No pre-registration is required for the
free event.

Golf Classic presented by The
Knickerbocker Group of Raymond James
at Walnut Creek Country Club in South

On a roll
The Wayne County Parks Saturday in the Park program is under way and visitors
can now walk, run, skate or cycle safely along 6 miles of Hines Drive from 9 a.m.
until 3:30 p.m. every Saturday. Hines Drive will be shut down to vehicular traffic
from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive so that guests have the opportunity to partici-
pate in their favorite activities in a vehicle-free environment. The Saturday in the
Park program will continue through Sept. 24. All ages can participate. Parking is
available at the Hines' Park Helms Haven Area located on Hines Drive, west of
Outer Drive and Hines Park Nankin Mills Picnic Area at Hines Drive, east of Ann
Arbor Trail.
