Bus service available
Inkster residents who want to take part
in programs at the Dozier Recreation
Complex in the city now have a shuttle bus
available for transportation.
The Inkster Commission on Aging offers
the service which can be requested by
phone at (734) 728-7530.
The service is available to all senior citi-
zenswho reside in Inkster.
Genealogyworkshops offered
The Belleville Area District Library will
offer genealogy workshops, Tracing Your
Roots, at 7 p.m. everyWednesday inApril.
Local history and genealogy research
expert Ginger Bruder will guide partici-
pants through strategies and resources
available to develop a record of family his-
tories. The final class will feature a lecture
by Mark Bowden, the librarian in charge of
local history collections at the Detroit
PublicLibrary.

Northville exhibit opens
The Northville Art House will
IMPRINT: A Kate Paul Retrospective, fea-
turing more than 50 works, including paint-
ings, etchings, sketches, sculptures, and
prose, by Livonia artist Kate Paul. The exhi-
bition will continue through Saturday,
April 29, during Art House hours, noonuntil
5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon
until 4 p.m. onSaturdays.

CoffeeHour planned
State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-
Taylor) has scheduled a coffee hour at 9
a.m. April 21 at the Sumpter Township
Senior Center, 23501 Sumpter Road to dis-
cuss state and local issues of concern.
Hopgood represents the 6th Senate
District, which includes Belleville,
Brownstown Township, Flat Rock, Huron
Township, Rockwood, Romulus, Sumpter
Township, Taylor, Van Buren Township and
Westland. The coffee hour will provide an
opportunity for citizens to meet Hopgood
and share their thoughts about current
events inLansing and the local community.
Victorian clothing on sale
The Northville Historical Society 2017
Victorian Clothing Sale will take place from
1-7 p.m. April 20 and 21 and from 11 a.m.
until 3 p.m. April 22 this year.
Victorian Era clothing and accessories
for adults and children will be available for
purchase from various vendors. New, vin-
tage and gently-used clothing will be avail-
able.
There is a $2 per adult admission
charge. Cash sales are preferred as some
vendors may not accept checks or credit
cards.

Register now for 'OpportuniTIES'
Well-Suited for Manhood is hosting a
workshop for males interested in learning
how to tie a necktie. The goal is to teach
males this very important life skill.
Volunteers will demonstrate various tie
tying techniques. The workshop, titled,
OpportuniTIES for Success, will take place
from11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 29 in the

The Greater Romulus Chamber of
Commerce will honor Jan Lemmon, the
32nd Person of the Year at a dinner recep-

Ghosts of Plymouthwalk planned
The Plymouth Historical Museum is
organizing a Ghosts of Plymouth Walk
Around Old Village beginning at 5 p.m.
Saturday, April 22.
The walks will start at gazebo on Farmer
Street and will last up to 90 minutes.
Participants shouldwearwalking shoes.
Tickets are priced at $12 if purchased in
advance or $20 the day of the walk. Tickets

Soapers are sought
Plymouth Community United Way in
partnership with Comcast Cares Day,
S.O.A.P. Metro Detroit, and Pearls of Great
Price Coalition are hosting a community
discussion about human trafficking.
“Soapers” will learn what human traffick-
ing is, hear from a survivor, and be able to
join the initiative by helping to label bars of
hotel soap, that will be distributed at a later
date.
The event will take place at Plymouth
First United Methodist Church (45201 N.
Territorial, Plymouth) from 9:30 until 11:30
a.m. Saturday, April 22. Check-in will begin
at 8:45 a.m. Volunteers must pre-register for
this event, as space is limited to 160
“soapers”.

Church hosts garage sale
SS Simon and Jude Church will host a
garage sale from9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday
April 22.
Therewill be a $3 bag sale beginning at 3
p.m. and all large items will be sold for half
price at the bad sale.

Money Smart Week celebrated
The Romulus Public Library will cele-
brate Money Smart Week 2017 with a spe-
cial story time event. There will be amoney
craft and hear a special guest reader for
Parkside Credit Union. New York Life
Insurance Co. will also issue free child
identification cards for those 17 and
younger.
There are free giveaways planned at the
event which will begin at 6:30 p.m. April 25.
New York Life representatives will be on
site from6-8 p.m.
This is a free event open to all ages.

Calendar of events
Beautification dates set
The Inkster Beautification commit-
tee members have planned several
dates for volunteer clean up of the
community this year.
The Kick off event will take place
at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the
Dozier Recreation Complex, 2015
Middlebelt Road in the city.
The events will take place rain or
shine, organizers said and several
dates have been set throughout the
community for the volunteer clean-up
event.
Additional clean-up dates for 2017
have been set for May 20, June 24,
July 29, Aug. 26, Sept. 30, Oct 28 and
Nov. 18. Dumpsters will be available
at Westwood Park, located at
Stollman, east of John Daly; in
Wheatley Park, located at Penn and
Beech Daly Road; Lemoyne Park at
Middlebelt and Pine and at the recre-
ation complex.
The public is invited to join in the
volunteer effort to clean up the city,
organizers said.
