Members of the Canton
TownshipBoard of Trustees are
taking pre-emptive active to
ensure continued ethical con-
duct in all their official deal-
ings.
The board members unani-
mously agreed to authorize a
sub-committee to examine the
current ethics policies in the
township and make whatever
changes necessary to ensure
the highest standards of con-
duct among officials. The sub-
committee members, Township
Clerk Michael Siegrist, trustees
John Anthony and Anne Marie
Graham-Hudak, will use the
guideline policies provided by
the Michigan Townships
Association as a reference for
any suggested changes.
Board members said at the
meeting last week that the
ethics policy has not been
reviewed in eight or nine years.
Siegrist noted that there are
four newmembers on the board
and some of them may not be
familiar with the ethics policies
in place in Canton. Most of the
board members, however, are
experienced
officials.
Supervisor Pat Williams was
elected to the board of trustees
twice prior to winning his cur-
rent offices. Siegrist and trustee
Steven Sneideman each served
on the Plymouth Canton Board
of Education and new
Treasurer Dian Slavens is a for-
mer state representative.
Anthony is currently the longest
serving member of the Canton
board. Graham-Hudak is a first-
time elected official.
Siegrist said that the sub-
committee, which he will lead,
will attempt to create a self-
enforced ethical code.
