Concert salutes lawenforcement
The Belleville Seventh-Day Adventist
Church will host a free tribute concert for
local law enforcement, fire and rescue,
veterans and emergency services men
andwomen at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 9.
The concert is free and will feature
Christian recording artist Scott Michael
Bennett who has sung all over the world
and at thePentagon.
The church is located at 89 S.
Edgemont St. in Belleville.
Toddler Story Time continues
The Romulus Public Library will host
Toddler Story time for those 0-4 years of
age for playtime, stories and crafts from
10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays through
March 28.
Older children can attend but must be
accompaniedby an adult.
Toddler Story Time is sponsored in
part by theFriends of theRomulus Public
Library.

Veterans set Fish Frys
Plymouth VFW Post 6695 will host
FridayNight FishFrys from5-7 p.m. start-
ing Feb. 9, and every Friday night during
Lent. The fish frys will continue through
March 30, with the exception of Feb. 16.
Menu choices include cod, walleye,
shrimp or chicken strips. Dinners include
French fries, baked potato or macaroni
and cheese, cole slaw, roll and butter and
coffee.
There will also be 50-50 raffles during
the dinners.
The Plymouth VFW Post is located at
1426 SMill St. near LilleyRoad just north

Survey deadline extended
As part of the joint Plymouth
City/Township Recreation Master Plan,
the State of Michigan requires input from
individuals and groups who are users of
the recreation services.
Local officials have distributed a ques-
tionnaire, which can be accessed at
/Recreation-6/Recreation-Master-Plan-
Questionnaire-64.
The questionnaire will allow respon-
dents to share their thoughts about parks
and recreation in the city and township.
The response deadline has been extend-
ed toFeb. 18.
Fireman's Ball tickets on sale
The Northville Township Firefighters
Charity Fund will host the 15th Annual
Fireman's Ball from 6 p.m. until midnight
Saturday, Feb. 17 at Laurel Manor, 39000
Schoolcraft Road inLivonia.
Tickets are priced at $100 per person
and include dinner, drinks, and dancing
to livemusic fromtheKillerFlamingos.
There will also be a raffle, silent and
live auctions during the evening.

Used book sale set
Friends of the Westland Library will
host a winter warm up book sale from 3-6
p.m. today, Feb. 8, formembers only.
The sale will be open to the public
from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday and
Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10 and from noon
until 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. Sunday is
also bag day when buyers can fill a bag
withbooks for $4.
Specials at the sale include biogra-
phies priced at three for $1 and hardcov-
er adult fiction books will be buy one, get
one free.

Artistic evening planned.
The Michigan Philharmonic will pres-
ent “An Evening of Artistic Expression”
beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. The
performance will include vocalist Lonnie
Reed, guest artist for the Michigan
Philharmonic “Rock, Pop & Soul” con-
cert. “An Evening of Artistic Expression”
will take place at artist Tony Roko's
WarehouseStudio.
Reed will be performing an eclectic
selection, from classical works, to pop
songs, accompanied on piano by Maurice
Draughn, principal harpist with the
MichiganPhilharmonic
Roko was named Detroit's Best Fine
Artist for three consecutive years (2015-
2017), and his art serves as the face of
AtwaterBrewery.
Tickets for the event are $40, and light
appetizers, wine, as well as Atwater
Brewery craft beer are included. The
event benefits Music and Arts Education
Programs of the Michigan Philharmonic

BlackHistory celebrated
Middle Park Manor Block Club will
present ABlackHistory Celebration from
5-8 p.m. Feb. 10 at Pentecostal Temple

Firefighters teachCPR
The Plymouth Township Fire
Department is offering CPR Classes
monthly to all residents and groups in
Plymouth Township. The Fire
Department is an American Heart
Association Certified Training site for
Heartsaver CPR and other first aid tech-
niques.
These sessions are free for township
residents. For non-residents, there is a
nominal fee for books and CPR cards.
Anyone interested in learning
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation should

sign up for a class. Enrollment must be
complete no later than one week before

Celebrate Valentine's weekend with

before her husband's birthday for a tea at
the Plymouth Historical Museum from 2-
4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. Mrs. Lincoln, por-
trayed by Pam Dawson, will discuss her
earliest recollections, through her
courtship and marriage to Abraham
Lincoln, up to his election to the
Presidency.
Tea and delicacies will be catered by
Diann's Catering, including the special
tea of themuseum, “Mary'sBlend.”
Ticket holders who arrive at the
Plymouth Historical Museum before the
tea are welcome to visit the “Here Comes
the Bride” special exhibit, which will be
open to the public until June 17. Doors for
“Tea with Mrs. Lincoln” will open at 1:50
p.m.

Calendar of events
City marks Black History
Several events are planned through-
out February to commemorate Black
HistoryMonth inRomulus.
Four the fourth year, the city will
offer a Black History Bus Tour
Featuring Stops on the Underground
Railroad.
Tour-goers will make stops around
the city, highlighting the rich history of
Romulus including sites that were loca-
tions for the Underground Railroad
and others that were important to the
Civil Rightsmovement.
The tour will take begin with board-
ing of the bus at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb.
17 in theRomulus CityHall parking lot.
The tour should last approximately 3
hours.

are limited and early registration is
advised.
For those not able to attend, a nar-
rated video of the tour is available on
the city YouTube channel and local
Comcast Cable.
Rosie Chapman, a.k.a. Miz Rosie, is
a teacher, performing artist, author and
school social worker who thrills audi-
ences of all ages with storytelling. Her
interactive performances are truly
educational and entertaining. She will
present Goin' Up North, the Great
Migration of African Americans at 6
p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Romulus
PublicLibrary.
This activity is funded in part by the
Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural
Affairs and the Michigan Humanities
Council.
