Schools of choice option available
‘Gone With The Breeze’
Inspire show opens tomorrow
Wayne-Westland Community
Schools will offer a Schools of
Choice program for the 2018-
2019 year for students in kinder-
garten through grade 12. The
Schools of Choice program pro-
vides parents the opportunity to
move their child fromone school
to another within the boundaries
of the school district provided
there is room available in the
school.
Transportation to and from
the school of choice must be pro-
vided by the parent or legal
guardian.
District parents wishing to
have their child attend an ele-
mentary, upper elementary, mid-
dle or high school other than the
one assigned by residency must
submit a 2018-2019 Schools of
Choice application. These appli-
cations will be available in every
Wayne-Westland school.
Schools of Choice applica-
tions for elementary school stu-
dents, upper elementary stu-
dents, middle school students,
and high school students will be
accepted in the Pupil
Accounting Office at the Board
of Education Building, 36745
Marquette Road, Westland, until
March 1.
If space is available, selected
students with timely applica-
tions can begin the 2018-2019
year in the school of choice. If
more students apply for a
grade/building than there are
openings, a random selection
process will be used to select stu-
dents. The names of students not
selected at that time will be
placed on a waiting list for the
2018-2019 year.
Current Schools of Choice stu-
dentsmust reapply to remain eli-
gible for the program next year.
After the deadline Schools of
Choice applications will be
accepted until Aug. 23, at the ele-
mentary, upper elementary, mid-
dle, or high school the
parent/guardian would like the
child to attend. These names will
be added to the 2018-2019 school
year waiting lists on a first-come,
first-servedbasis.
Building principals will use
the waiting lists to notify quali-
fied students of an opening.
Building principals will be
allowed to place Schools of
Choice students only through
Sept. 14. No Schools of Choice
placements will be made after
that date. A Schools of Choice
student will be moved back to
his/her home school if an over-
crowding situation occurs within
the first 10 weeks of the school
year.
After 10 weeks, the student
will be permitted to remain in
the school of choice for the
remainder of the school year,
provided all other conditions
continue to be satisfied. It is the
policy of the Wayne-Westland
Community Schools Board of
Education to prohibit any acts of
unlawful discrimination in all
matters dealing with students,
employees, or applicants for
employment.

Warming up the stage is thewinter pro-
duction at Inspire Theatre, “Gone With
The Breeze.” Sounding like a takeoff of
the blockbuster, “Gone With The Wind,”
the show is actually a behind-the-scenes
musical-comedy set in Hollywood in the
1990s. The action starts with the whole
country talking about the novel soon to be
made into a new hit movie. When the
nation hears about the plans of Lone Pine
Films, hundreds of aspiring young
actresses descend on the studio. These
divas make the burning of Atlanta seem
like child's play. Only one problem - Peggy
Tempest - the reigning studio queen,
insists the part of the heroine, Jezebel
O'Toole, belongs to her. Jezebel O'Toole
will make Scarlett O'Hara seem like soggy
grits and Peggy will stop at nothing to get
the part.
Inspire Theatre has been bringing pro-
ductions to the shopping and dining dis-
trict of Westland since 2005. Artistic
Director Len Fisher, of Wayne, who con-
tinues to be the driving force behind
Inspire Theatre, has once again teamed
with daughter, Elizabeth, also of Wayne, to
turn a little-known musical into an enter-
taining evening for the entire family.
Elizabeth Fisher, who fills the role of cho-
reographer, is joined by musical director
Tiffany Archibald of Romulus and tech
person,WendyHardy of Livonia.
“Its fun to play the role of the diva,”
said Courtney Nixon of Farmington Hills,
who fills the role of Peggy. “My last role at
Inspire I played Igor in 'It Happened One
Fright.' Let's just say that these costumes
are prettier.”
With a cast of 22, many of the perform-
ers are returning Inspire Theatre alumni.
New faces onstage include Dave Durham
of Garden City, fresh from a successful
appearance in “How Old is That Photo,”
at Trinity House in Livonia. He joins
other newcomers Margaret Aneshansel
and Alivia Morton of Canton Township,
Ben Archibald of Romulus and Livy
Kagan of AnnArbor.
“Gone With The Breeze” will open at
7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 and continue for
three weekends at the Westland Center
for the Arts located at 33455 Warren Road
in Westland. Tickets are $16 and can be
purchased at inspiretheatre.ticketleap.

The petitioners submitted seven
samples of petition language
against Sanders to the Wayne
County Elections Commission
prior to gaining approval of the
language ultimately used on the
petitions. Sanders was one of
four council members to vote in
favor of the change although
recall efforts against the others
were abandoned.
Sanders said the decision to
go forward with an appeal was
not an easy one for him to make.
He said he had, however, author-
ized his attorney to file for an
emergency hearing with the
Michigan Court of Appeals in an
effort to overturn Columbo's deci-
sion.
“My attorney believes the
judge was mistaken on at least
one and perhaps more points of
law,” Sanders said.
“This is another step in the
process,” Sanders said. “This is
the way democracy works. I
absolutely respect the right of the
people to petition. I also believe
in the justice system and my
rights under the law.”
It could take up to three
weeks for the appeals court to
issue a decision on whether or
not tohear thematter.
