Handmade quilt with patriotic theme to be raffled
Visitors to the Sumpter Country Fest this year could leave
with a warm memory of the event.
The Sumpter Township Senior Center Quilting Group has
donated a unique handmade quilt to be raffled off by the
Parks and Recreation Commission during the Memorial Day
weekend event. Proceeds from the quilt raffle and other
events during the festival help fund children's events organ-
ized by the Parks and Recreation Commission during the year.
This year, the quilt has a military theme which was
designed and produced at the senior center which ties in to
the festival theme for 2019, “Honoring Veterans.”
Karen Mickens, who has been making quilts in the center
for more than 17 years and Florence Bascom, a newer mem-
ber of the quilting group, both worked on the handmade
patchwork bedcover.
Tickets for the quilt raffle are $1 each or six for $5 and will
be on sale all weekend in the pavilion. The winner will be Karen Mickens and Florence Bascom worked on the hand-
