They called themselves the Romulus
Union Church Society. The historic
“White Church” was built in a grove on
the Pullen Farm. The signing of the
deed was witnessed by Mary Stofflet
and G. W. Moore, the Justice of the
Peace, and the purchase price of the
property was $30.
The church became the center of
spiritual, social, and political activities
in the community. G. Morris in 1864
tells of going to the “White Church” to
hear a lady speak on slavery. A notifi-
cation from the same diary dated Nov.
27, 1864 speaks of his sister, Mary Jane
Morris, marrying Peter C. Bird at the
church.
