History of famous White Church celebrated
The “White Church” at Five Points
in Romulus has recently been recog-
nized as a local historical site.
Romulus Wesleyan Church,
described throughout the area as “the
White Church” is the oldest church in
the City of Romulus and has served the
community for 164 years.
As far as can be determined, this
church building started in 1855 and
was dedicated in June, 1856. Logs for
the building were drawn by oxen
teams from a sawmill that stood on the
southwest corner of what is now Grant
and Wayne roads. The late Robert and
Peter Bird, sons of Richard Bird, relat-
