Donations of new and unwrapped toys

several Canton Leisure Services loca-
tions, including the Summit on the Park,

Interactive Story Time under way
The Romulus Public Library offers
interactive Parent/Child Story Time for
children 4 and younger and parents at
10:30 a.m. every Wednesday. The program
is free and no registration is required.
Story time helps prepare children for suc-
cess in school and beyond and is present-
ed in partnership with the Guidance
Center.

Person of the Year sought
The Romulus Chamber of Commerce
is now accepting nominations for the 2017
Romulus Person of theYear.
Completed forms, available at the
chamber website, must be returned to the
chamber office by 4 p.m. Dec. 16. The

200, Romulus, Mi 48174.
Later nominations will not be consid-
ered.
A committee will review the nomina-
tions and make the selection of the win-
ning candidate. This is the 32nd year for
the award in the city.

Winter clothing collected
Plymouth Community United Way
(PCUW) is looking for community mem-
bers to donate new, warmwinter items for
the Hats for the Homeless drive which
will continue through the month of
December.
Donors are asked to drop off new hats,
mittens, gloves, scarves, blankets, and
socks at Plymouth Community United
Way, 960 W. Ann Arbor Trail, Suite 2,
Plymouth, during business hours 7:45 a.m.
until 4:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and
from7:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. onFriday. All
adult and children sizes arewelcome.
Plymouth Yoga Room (474 Forest,

CandyCane contest begins
The Romulus Public Library is now
accepting entries in the Candy Cane
CountingContest.
Entries will be accepted through Dec.
30 from those 18 and younger who must
guess the number of candy canes in the
jar. There will be one winner who guesses
the total number of canes in the jar. In
case of a tie, the library staff will choose a
randomwinner to be announced Jan. 2.

Teddy Bear Toss planned
USA Hockey and Plymouth
Community United Way are partnering
for the annual Teddy Bear Toss at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 3. Simply bring a new
stuffed animal, or buy a teddy bear at the
game, to throw on the ice when Team
USA scores their first goal. All proceeds
and stuffed animals go to Plymouth
CommunityUnitedWay.
Show your stuffed animal at the game
and receive a raffle ticket to win a suite
for a future 2016-17 home game. The prize
includes 20 suite tickets and $100 food
voucher.

Christmas Party date set
The Inkster Commission on Aging will
host the annual Christmas Party for sen-
iors beginning at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec.

Library offers computer classes
Computer classes will be offered at the
BellevilleAreaDistrict Library.
Microsoft Word: Basics and Beyond for
users who have some experience with
creating documents, but would like to
learn more will be offered at 7 p.m. Dec. 6
This is a good class for those who want to
learnhow to spruceup a basic resume.
Computer Basics, for learners with lit-
tle or no previous experience with com-
puters, will take place at 10:30 a.m. or 3
p.m. Dec. 7.
Introduction to the Internet class
requires some basic mouse and keyboard
skills. This class takes place at 10:30 a.m.
or 3 p.m. Dec. 12.
Registration for classes now open.
Interested participants must register in
person at the library and provide a $5
cash deposit for each class they plan to
attend; deposits are returned when stu-
dents attend the class.

Canton Tree LightingWednesday
The official Tree Lighting event in
Canton Township is set for 6-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 7.
The 'official' tree, sponsored by Toll
Brothers, will be lit by the Summit on the
Park at 6:30 p.m. and special festivities
will take place both indoors and outdoors.
There will be live reindeer, seasonal
entertainment, kids' crafts, activities, a
holiday artisan and vendor marketplace
for shopping, refreshments, and visits
withSanta.
No pre-registration necessary as wrist-
bands are sold on site. Fees are $3 for
Canton residents and $4 for non-residents.
New this year, pre-purchase non-
refundable wristbands at the Summit
Front Desk fromthrough 10 p.m. Dec. 6 for
$2.50 for Canton residents and $3.50 for
non-residents.

Musical ‘Christmas Carol’
opens tonight at PARC
This is opening night for Forever
After Productions' A Christmas Carol -
The Musical at the PARC in Plymouth,
650ChurchSt.
The musical is designed to enter-
tain the entire family and is based on
the Charles Dickens novel with music
by Alan Menke and lyrics by Lynn
Ahrens. The show tells the story of how
miserable Ebenezer Scrooge journeys
back through his life with the help of
the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present
and Future and finally manages to
recapture his Christmas spirit.
A Christmas Carol includes cast
members from 6-75 years of age. This
is the fifth annual performance of the
musical by Forever After. New to the
cast this year is Chris Plum of
Plymouth playing the role of Ebenezer
Scrooge. His daughter, Claire, plays the
role ofMr. Smythe's daughter.
General admission tickets are $10
and are currently on sale for all six
performances: 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2; 2
p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 3; and 1 p.m. and 5
