CandyCornContest continues
Those 18 and younger have until Nov. 30
to guess howmany candy corn pieces are in
the jar at theRomulus PublicLibrary.
There will be only one winner who will
take home the jar and the candy by guessing
closest to the exact number of candies in the
container. If more than one entry has the
correct number, library staff members will
randomly select a winner from those
entries.
The winner will be contacted the first
week of December and will have one week
to collect the prize.

Family Story Time continues at the

Person of the Year sought
The Romulus Chamber of Commerce is
now accepting nominations for the 2017
Romulus Person of theYear.
Completed forms, available at the cham-
ber website, must be returned to the cham-
ber office by 4 p.m. Dec. 16. The office is

Romulus, Mi 48174.
Later nominations will not be consid-
ered. A committee will review the nomina-
tions and make the selection of the winning
candidate. This is the 32nd year for the
award in the city.

Interactive Story Time under way
The Romulus Public Library offers inter-
active Parent/Child Story Time for children
4 and younger and parents at 10:30 a.m.
every Wednesday. The program is free and

Winter clothing collected
Plymouth Community United Way
(PCUW) is looking for community members
to donate new, warm winter items for the
Hats for the Homeless drive which will con-
tinue through themonthof December.
Donors are asked to drop off new hats,
mittens, gloves, scarves, blankets, and socks
at Plymouth Community United Way, 960 W.
Ann Arbor Trail, Suite 2, Plymouth, during
business hours 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Monday - Thursday and from 7:45 a.m. until
2:45 p.m. on Friday. All adult and children
sizes arewelcome.
Plymouth Yoga Room (474 Forest,
Plymouth,) will also be collecting from

Turkey Trot takes off
Work up an appetite for a good cause
Thanksgiving morning by running or walk-
ing in Canton Leisure Services 14th annual
Turkey Trot for a Cause on Thursday, Nov.
24.
All ages are encouraged to join in the
fight against epilepsy by taking part in this
chip-timed 5K event that will benefit the
Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. The race
is set to start at the Summit on the Park,
located at 46000 Summit Parkway, and will
cover a picturesque, flat course that winds
through Heritage Park and Pheasant Run
Golf Course ending.

Free holidaymeal served
For the fifth year, the members of Living
By Faith Church in Romulus will serve free
Thanksgiving dinners.
The traditional dinner with turkey and
stuffing along with side dishes will be
served from noon until 3 p.m. Nov. 24 at the
church, 7066 Waynecorse Road. The dinner
is open to the public at no charge.

Knitting session offered.
The Belleville Area District Library will
host an arm-knitting class at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.
Participants will learn to make a chunky
cowl or scarf without knitting needles. The
library will provide the yarn for the free
program.

CandyCane contest begins
The Romulus Public Library will begin
accepting entries in the Candy Cane
Counting Contest beginning Dec. 1. Entries
will be accepted through Dec. 30 from those
18 and younger who must guess the number
of candy canes in the jar. There will be one
winner who guesses the total number of
canes in the jar. In case of a tie, the library
staff will choose a random winner to be
announced Jan. 2.

Teddy Bear Toss planned
USA Hockey and Plymouth Community
United Way are partnering for the annual
Teddy Bear Toss at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Simply bring a new stuffed animal, or buy a
teddy bear at the game, to throw on the ice
when Team USA scores their first goal. All
proceeds and stuffed animals go to
PlymouthCommunityUnitedWay.
Show your stuffed animal at the game
and receive a raffle ticket towin a suite for a
future 2016-17 home game. The prize
includes 20 suite tickets and $100 food
voucher.

Wayne to light tree
The City of Wayne official Christmas
Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place
from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at theWayne
Historical Museum. Visits with Santawill be
available.
Volunteers are needed to help welcome
guests and act as Santa's helpers. Volunteers
will also read short holiday stories to chil-
dren visiting themuseum.
The Museum Store is now open from 10
a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 10
a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursdays for holiday shop-
ping. Several history books are now in stock
including The History of The Wayne Fire
Department byRichardStory.

Breakfast With Santa returns
Bring the entire family to the Summit on
the Park to enjoy breakfast with Santa Claus
from9-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3
During the breakfast, kids can share
their wish list with Santa, create a winter
craft, and enjoy a Christmas story time. All
children will receive a holiday souvenir,
crayons, and place-mat. Parents are encour-
aged to bring a camera.
Tickets must be purchased in advance at
the Summit on the Park during normal busi-
ness hours through Dec. 1. Ticket prices for
ages 3 and younger are $4.25 for Canton resi-
dents and $5.25 non-residents; 4-12 year olds
are $15.25 for residents and $18.25 for non-
residents; ages 13 and up are $19.25 for resi-
dents and $23.25 for non-residents. Seating
is reserved by table location only on a first-
come, first-serve basis. For additional infor-

Christmas Party date set
The Inkster Commission on Aging will
host the annual Christmas Party of seniors
beginning at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at the
DozierRecreationComplex.
Tickets, priced at $8 for members and

advance and are limited. No tickets will be
sold at the door.

Computer classes will be offered at the
BellevilleAreaDistrict Library.
Microsoft Word: Basics and Beyond for
userswho have some experiencewith creat-
ing documents, but would like to learnmore
will be offered at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 This is a good
class for those who want to learn how to
spruceup a basic resume.
Computer Basics, for learners with little
or no previous experience with computers,
will take place at 10:30 a.m. or 3 p.m. Dec. 7.
Introduction to the Internet class
requires some basic mouse and keyboard
skills. This class takes place at 10:30 a.m. or
3 p.m. Dec. 12.
Registration for classes is now open.
Interested participants must register in per-
son at the library and provide a $5 cash
deposit for each class they plan to attend;
deposits are returned when students attend
the class.
