Online auction continues
Van Buren Civic Fund (VCBF) is hosting
an online silent auction featuring Tiger
tickets and signedmemorabilia.
Bidding will continue through June 5.
All proceeds benefit the VBCF and Van

FarmFest is Saturday
FarmFest is planned from10 a.m. until 5
p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Maybury Farm and
will feature a wide variety of activities
including blacksmithing and sheep shear-
ing, games and activities for children, live
music, wagon rides, farm animals and story
time. In addition, there will be a building
workshop, an art project and the planting of
container gardens along with a family scav-
enger hunt.
Tickets to Farm Fest are $5 per person
and children younger than 2 can enter for
freewith an adult.
Maybury Farm is located at 50165 Eight
Mile Road in Northville. It is 1-¼mile west
of Beck Road on Eight Mile, ½mile west of
Maybury State Park. Enter at the Maybury

Farmersmarket nowopen
The Canton Farmers Market opened last
month and will be open from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. every Sunday through Oct. 12 (closed
July 2) at Preservation Park, located at 500
N. RidgeRoad, Canton.
This open-air-market features a variety
of Michigan grown and made food as well
as hand-crafted items. The Farmers Market
will take place rain or shine.

Balance classes offered
A Matter of Balance, an award-winning
program designed to reduce the fear of
falling and increase activity levels among
older adults will be available at no cost in
Inkster.
The free classes will take place from 1-3
p.m. Wednesdays June 7 and 14 at the
Dozier Recreation Center, 2025 Middlebelt
Road in Inkster.
Those who have concerns about falling
can register the Inkster Commission on
Aging, (313) 561-2382 to register.
Transportation for senior citizens in Inkster
will be available on request.

Building experts to speak
Inspectors from the Canton Township
Building and Inspection Services Division
will be at Home Depot, located at 39825
Ford Road, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Saturday, June 3 to help answer resident’s
questions about home improvement proj-
ects.
Homeowners are required to obtain a
building permit for additions like a roomor
sunroom or making an alteration to a home
such as windows, siding or basement
remodeling or for a shed, detached garage
or deck. Permits are also required for
installing a pool or sprinkler system or
alterations to electrical, plumbing, heating
or air conditioning systems.
Rental, Building, Electrical, Plumbing
and HVAC inspectors will be on hand June
3 to help answer resident questions one-on-
one and the inspectors will come equipped
with code books and permit applications.
The session is free of charge.
Dance lessons aidCivicConcern
Piazza Dance Company is offering free
dance lessons from 1-3:30 Saturday, June 3
to helpNorthvilleCivicConcern.
Students will participate in two back-to-
back dance sessions in jazz and hip-hop
and learn choreography and techniques.

Senator sets town hall meeting
State Sen. Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-
Taylor) will be hosting an Environmental
Town Hall at 6 p.m. Monday, June 5 at
Belleville High School. All residents in the
6th SenateDistrict are invited to attend and
discuss important environmental issues in
the State ofMichigan.
Several state- and local-level environ-
mental groups - including the Michigan
Environmental Council, the Michigan
League of Conservation Voters and the
Sierra Club-MI Chapter - will present infor-
mation on priority issues andways inwhich
residents can actively work to make a dif-
ference in our communities.

SCORE offers programs
The nationally recognized businessmen-
toring organization, SCORE, has a number
of programs scheduled at the Plymouth
District Library this summer.
SCORE will also be presenting, “Making

the right strategies, tools and tactics to
sharpen their digital marketing efforts

Chamber hosts dock party
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commerce will host aDock Party from5:30-
7:30 p.m. June 14.
The event will include the installation of
the new board of directors and serve as a
kick off for the annual Strawberry Festival
in the community.
The Dock Party will take place at
Johnny's Bar and Grill, 146 High St. in
Belleville.
The cost to attend is $10 for members
and $15 for non-members of the chamber.

Canton Liberty Fest opens
The 2017 Liberty Festival in Canton
Township will take place from Thursday,
June 15 throughout Saturday, June 17 on
the grounds of Heritage Park, located
behind the Canton Administration Building
at 1150 S. CantonCenterRoad.
This year, the festival will feature three
fun-filled days of great entertainment, excit-
ing rides and Midway games, organizers
said, along with delicious food featuring a
Taste of Liberty Festival as well as a variety
of food trucks, two stages of live entertain-
ment, a spectacular fireworks display and
much, muchmore.
Festival-goers can purchase discounted
carnival ride wristbands online through
noon, Thursday, June 15.
The Megaband provides unlimited
access to all wristband approved rides, dur-
ing all three days of the event, and is priced
at $60.
Megabands can only be purchased in
advance online.
Single-day unlimited ride wristbands
that are valid for any one day are $22 each
online before the festival and at the carni-
val will cost $25 for Thursday, $27 for Friday,
and $30 on Saturday. All discounted wrist-
band online sales will end at noon

Behind the 'seen'
The Plymouth Community Arts Council will present Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)
Behind the Seen program beginning at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday, June 6. Museum
Docent Cindy Patrick and Arts Council Director Lisa Howard will present the
history and facts of interest regarding the 12 DIA art reproductions now
installed in the Plymouth community. The presentation will take place from 7-8
p.m. and there will be a question and answer session at the free program. The
event is free and open to the public. The presentation was designed for those
