Bus service available
Inkster residents who want to take
part in programs at the Dozier
RecreationComplex in the city nowhave
a shuttle bus available for transportation.
The Inkster Commission on Aging
offers the service which can be request-

FarmersMarket is open
The Westland Farmers Market will
open today and be open from 3-7 p.m.
everyThursday throughOct. 13.
The market takes place at 1901 N.
Carlson, south of Ford Road in Central
City Park. Vendors will be selling pro-
duce, plants, fresh foods and crafts.
There is live music every week and EBT
cards are accepted.

Student art on display
The 18th Annual Student Art Display
at the Northville Art House will feature
more than 50 two and three-dimensional
works of art in various mediums from
middle and high school students in the
Northville, Novi and surrounding
schools.
The exhibit is organized in collabora-
tion with local art educators to promote
the appreciation and the importance of
art among community youth. All students
participating in this all-media juried
exhibit will receive recognition for their
efforts including awards and prizes given
for outstandingworks of art.
The Student Art Exhibit will continue
through May 20 during Art House hours,
noon until 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and
noonuntil 4 p.m. Saturday.
Spring carnival announced
The Northville Chamber of
Commerce Spring Carnival will take
place from 4-10 p.m. today, May 11; from
4-11 p.m. Friday, May 12, from 1-11 p.m.
Saturday, May 13 and from 1-9 p.m.
Sunday, May 14.
Times are subject to change due to
weather and the carnival midway rides
will be located at Northville Downs, at
Sheldon andSevenMile roads.
Admission to the midway is free and
individual ride tickets are $1. Thursday
wristbands are priced at $15; Friday
bands are $18 and Saturday and Sunday
unlimited ride wristbands are priced at
$20.

Hazardouswaste collection set
Plymouth Township will host a
Household Hazardous Waste Collection
event from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 13 at the USA Hockey
Arena, 14900BeckRoad, north entrance.

Items that are accepted include:
household paints, stains, dyes, floor care
items, furniture polish, bathroom clean-
ers, lawn and garden chemicals, pesti-
cides, fertilizers, antifreeze, motor oil,
gasoline, automotive batteries, dry cell
batteries, propane tanks, old computers,
printers, scanners, TV's, cell phones, fax
machines, mercury containing ther-
mometers, thermostats and elemental
mercury, fluorescent light bulbs (stan-
dard and compact), smoke detectors, fire
extinguishers and pharmaceutical waste
(non-controlled substances only)
Items that are not accepted include:
commercial waste, industrial waste,
ammunition, explosives, 55 gallon
drums, radioactive materials, unknown -
unlabeled waste, shock sensitive materi-
als, household trash and appliances.
Farmersmarket opens
The first Canton Farmers Market of
the year will be open from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. May 14 at Preservation Park, locat-
ed at 500N. RidgeRoad, Canton.
This open-air-market features a vari-
ety of Michigan grown and made food as
well as hand-crafted items. The Farmers
Market will take place every Sunday
through Oct. 12 (closed July 2), rain or
shine.

Judge is luncheon speaker
The Honorable Judge Brian A. Oakley
will be the guest speaker at the Romulus
Chamber of Commerce Business
Luncheon beginning with registration at
11:30 a.m. May 16 at the Romulus
Athletic Center, 37565 Northline Road in
Romulus. Lunchwill be served at noon.
Reservations will be accepted at (734)
893-0694 through May 12. Tickets are $20
for chamber members and $25 for non
members.
Oakley is a graduate of the Romulus
public schools and has been on the
bench at the 34th District Court since
1999. He practiced law in the city for
more than 10 years and his family roots
in the community go back to the 1800s.
The topic of Oakley's talk will be "You
PayByTheWord."
Balance classes offered
A Matter of Balance, an award-win-
ning program designed to reduce the
fear of falling and increase activity levels
among older adults will be available at
no cost in Inkster.
The free classes will take place from
1-3 p.m. Wednesdays, May 17, 24 and
June 7 and 14 at the Dozier Recreation
Center, 2025Middlebelt Road in Inkster.
Those who have concerns about
falling can register the Inkster
Commission on Aging, (313) 561-2382 to
register. Transportation for senior citi-
zens in Inkster will be available on
request.
Snackswill be provided.
The classes are sponsored by the
National Kidney Foundation of
Michigan, the City of Inkster and The
Senior Alliance.

Wayne Memorial High School class of
1957 graduates will meet for their 60th
class reunion from noon until 4 p.m. on

St. Edith and St. Colette Church will
host a Mom2Mom sale from 8:30 a.m.

Bark in the Park returns
Dog owners and their pets are invited
to Bark in the Park from 11 a.m. until 1
p.m. Sunday, May 21.
Participants, along with their four-
legged friends, can enjoy live entertain-
ment as well as purchase merchandise
and receive free give-a-ways from local
pet supply and service vendors. Both
members of the Dog Park and non-mem-
bers are encouraged to let their dogs
experience this off-leash dog park during
this free event.
This is an opportunity to learn about
the Canton Dog Park, meet other pet
owners, and give dogs the opportunity to
becomemore socialized.
Non-dog park members must show
proof of up-to-date vaccination for rabies
and distemper, signed by an accredited
veterinarian.
The Canton Dog Park is located at

A free lunch for seniors will take

Memorial Day parade planned
The annual Wayne Westland
Memorial Day parade is planned for 1
p.m. May 28 beginning at theWayne Ford
Civic League parking lot. The parade
will travel down Wayne Road to the
Veterans' Memorial at the William P.
Faust PublicLibrary.
Senior driving classes offered
AARPSmart Drivers Programis offer-
ing a refresher drivers' education course
from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday,
May 31 andThursday, June 1.
The fee for AARP members is $15, all
others, $20.
The course offers new rules of the
road for seniors along with research-
based driving strategies to help stay safe
behind thewheel. There are no tests.
