City to offer chipping
Due to the storm on April 15, the City of
Romulus Department of Public Works will
provide chipping service until April 27.
Residents should contact the Romulus
DPW hotline at (734) 942-7579 to report
downed brush for pickup. City of Romulus
personnel will only access brushwithin the
right of way of city-owned property. Due to
liability issues, personnel will not remove
brush fromprivate property.
In addition, the city waste hauler, Waste
Management, accepts brush placed at the
curbside: bundled with string in 3-4 foot
lengths, 18-inch maximum circumference.
Branches cannot exceed 6 inches, officials
said.
Register for golf outing
The Westland Chamber of Commerce
and The Westland Community Foundation
are nowaccepting registrations for theGolf
Classic set for May 22 at Salem Hills Golf
Club inNorthville.
The event is co sponsored by Michigan
Chiropractic Specialists and WCA
Assessing andusually sells out.
There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
and a scramble format. There are rates for
single players and foursomes available
which include breakfast; 18 holes of golf
with a cart; lunch; beer and pop on the
course; dinner with an open bar and a $20
gift certificate at Salem Hills, along with
multiple cashprizes.

Food for Fines offered at library
For the sixth consecutive year, the
Romulus Public Library will participate in
the Food for Fines campaign through April
29.
Bring non-perishable food to the library
and $1 in fines on library materials will be
forgiven for each item. Food will then be
donated to theHelpingHandFoodBank in
Romulus.
Food for Fines cannot be used for lost
items or collection fees items that are past
the expirationdate cannot be accepted.
Donations will be accepted for those
without fines aswell.

Inspire presents comedy
Inspire Theater will present Neil
Simon's Laughter On The 23rd Floor at
7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday May 4, 5.
There will be a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m.
May 6.
The production is a fictionalized look at
the backstage chaos that went into produc-
ing one of the landmark television shows,
TheMaxPrinceShow.
The popular comedy-variety series is a
major hit on the East Coast and the net-
work insists that Prince dumb the show
down for the rest of the country. As Prince
begins to unravel, his writing staff spends
time coming up with business or the show
while hurling humorous expletives at each
other and anyone elsewithearshot.
The show does contain some adult lan-
guage and may not be suitable for all audi-
ences.

NorthvilleGirls' Night Out
Northville businesses will stay open late
and have special offers during Girls' Night
Out set for 5-9 p.m. April 27.
This popular event only happens twice
each year and includes drawings and dis-
counts at nearly 50 retail stores.
There is convenient, free parking and
many restaurants are offering specials for
Girls' Night Out guests.
Community concert planned
The Belleville Community Chorus
Spring Concert, What a Wonderful World,
is planned for 7 p.m. April 28. The concert
will include the children's chorus.
The group is under the direction of Sue
Hiser and Steve Ko and singers will be
accompaniedbyKevinShay.
The concert will take place at United
Methodist Church, 417 Charles St. in
Belleville.
Rotarymarks EarthDay
Members of the Rotary Club of
Belleville will mark Earth Day with a Boat
Ramp Clean Up set for noon until 2 p.m.
Saturday, April 28.
The clean up will take place at the west
boat launch ramp at Rawsonville Road
north of Huron River Drive on the east
side of the road. Volunteers should bring
gloves, water and wear appropriate cloth-
ing.
Register for city-wide garage sale
Romulus will host the annual City-Wide
Garage/Yard Sale this year on Thursday,
May 17, Friday, May 18, Saturday, May 19
andSunday, May 20.
To participate, residents must register
in the office of the city clerk no later than
May 1 to be included in the newspaper
publication of addresses hosting sales.

Seniors' driving class set
Learn defensive driving techniques,
proven safety strategies and new traffic
laws and rules of the road during AARP
Seniors Driving Class set for 9:30 a.m. until
1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday,
May 3.
There are no tests to pass and the
course is completely confidential and does
not affect drivers licensing.
Upon completion, students may be eligi-
ble for a multi-year discount on car insur-
ance. The cost is $15 for AARP members
(with membership number) or $20 for all
others.

Cancer symposiumplanned
My Compassion, a federal 501c3, will
present "Treating Cancer With Cannabis
Symposium" from noon until 5 p.m. June 3,
which is National Cancer Survival Day.
The program will be presented at the
Sheraton Hotel Metro Airport 8000
MerrimanRoadRomulus, Michigan 48174.
My Compassion is a non-profit group
established to educate the public about the
positive uses for medical cannabis. The
symposiumwill provide an overview of the
use of cannabis and its components as a
treatment for people with cancer-related
symptoms caused by the disease itself or its
treatment.
Guest speakers will include medical
doctors, pediatric cancer survivors and
mothers My Compassion Founder and
Executive Director Heidi Parikh and
founder and cancer coach Theta Living.
There will be a live broadcast of the event
on the Roberts Scott Bell Show with Dr.
Robert Striesfeld as the emcee.

Calendar of events
Tickets are on sale for “A Tribute to
the Legends,” a night of entertainment
to raise funds to support Romulus
school children and the annual
PumpkinFestival Parade of Lights.
The musical event, sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Romulus, is set for 7:30
p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Hall at 39270 West
Huron River Drive in Romulus. Doors
open at 6 p.m.
The evening will feature “tributes”
to legendary musicians. Tyrone
Hamilton will perform as Ray Charles,
StevieWonder andRonnieMilsap. Also
performing will be “The Blues
Brothers” and “The What Abouts,” who
have appeared on the PBS series “My
Music.”
Tickets are $25 per person. A table of
eight is discounted to $160. Tickets are
available at the Greater Romulus
