Memorial Park in Flat Rock.

The Belleville Area Council for
the Arts will again sponsor the
Hares on The Square display for
2014, formerly called Bunnies on
Main.
Applications and "Hare Cages"
will be available, upon payment of
the $10 entry fee through April 6 at
Michigan PC Tech located at 397

Completed hares must be
returned to Belleville City Hall
between Tuesday, April 8 and
Friday, April 11. Hares will be on
display in Fourth Street Square
beginning Monday, April 14. Prizes
will be awarded at the May 5 city

Church serving Lentenmeal
First United Methodist Church
of Wayne will serve fish dinners
from 4: 30 to 7 p.m. Every Friday
throughApril 11.
The fish dinner includes baked
or fried fish, baked potato or french
fries, vegetable, cold slaw and a
roll. Children'smeals are also avail-
able with nuggets or one piece of

Wayne County Health and
Human Services Department will
sponsor a health coverage Expo
from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. March 29 at
the Western Campus of Wayne
County Community College District
inBelleville.
The expo will include informa-
tion about Medicaid and health
Michigan enrollment, health insur-
ance application support, market-
place enrollment, federally certi-
fied Affordable Care Act naviga-
tors, environmental service, WIC
services, Head Start, smoking ces-
sation, nutrition education and
other community resources.
Those attending are asked to

ver's license or identification card,
Social Security number; proof of

The Wayne Community Center
is sponsoring March Into Madness

Plymouth resident Beverley
Dunn will sign copies of her book,
Marriage, Incarcerated, at the

Free health fairs planned
Two free health fairs which will
include physician advice, blood
tests, cholesterol, prostate, blood
sugar and other testing will be
offered by the Hindu Temple of
CantonTownship.
The free screenings will be
available from 9 a.m. until noon
April 6 to the first 350 individuals
who sign up at the temple byMarch
31. The temple is located on Cherry
Hill Road east of Canton Center
Road. Registration is also available
at thehindutemple.org or
www.mapiusa.org. As many as 70
doctors are expected to be involved
with the event, open to Canton resi-
dents and others. Oakwood
Hospital-Wayne and the Michigan
Association of Physicians of Indian
Origin have joined with the temple
to provide thehealth fairs.
Those who register for blood
testing at the April 6 event must be
18 years of age or older. Those
patients are asked to fast after mid-
night to facilitate the testing. They
will be asked to return to the tem-
ple for the 9 a.m. until noon April
27 health fair to discuss their
resultswithdoctors.
The April 27 heath fair will also
offer care to walk-ins and provide
bloodpressure andhearing testing.
Senior driving programoffered
The AARP will offer a refresher
driving course for motorists 50
years and older from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. April 1 and 2.
The cost is $15 for AARP mem-
bers and $20 for non-members.
Students can refresh driving skills
and learn new rules of the road.
The course will also cover
research-baseddriving strategies to
increase safety behind the wheel.
Some insurance companies offer
discounted rates to those who com-
plete the course, a spokesperson
said.
Students can register and pre-
pay at the Wayne Senior Services
office throughMarch 26.
There are no tests to complete
with the course.
TomThewes exhibit planned
The Northville Art House will
exhibit work of TomThewes for the
monthof April.
The exhibit will open with a
reception from 6-9 p.m. First
Friday, April 4 and continue
throughApril 26.

Zumba and Yoga classes offered
The Romulus Recreation
Department will sponsor Zumba

Philharmonic presents ‘Fiesta’
The concert season which brought numerous
major national awards and recognitions for the
Michigan Philharmonic for innovative program-
ming will come to a close with a sizzling concert of
Latinmusic beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5.
The final concert of the seasonwill be “Fiesta!” a
celebration of music with roots in Latin American
culture and dance at the Village Theater in Canton
Township. Guest composer Alice Gomez, visiting
from San Antonio, TX, is an internationally
acclaimed composer of Latino and Mexican Indian
influenced works. She brings her Los Voladores
depicting the ancient ritual dance fromMexico and
the famous “pole flyers” fromGuatemala.
Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas is repre-
sented by his evocative Sensemayá based on the
work of Afro-Cuban poet Nicolas Guillen, hailed as
“an impressive musical fresco, full of distressing
and visionary imagery.” Another important com-
poser fromMexico, Carlos Chávez, will be featured
with his Sinfonia India. Inspired by the historic
Mayan civilization, the work abounds with wild and
infectious dance rhythms.
Michigan State University faculty member
Gwendolyn Burgett Thrasher will perform the pop-
ular Concerto for Marimba by Brazilian composer
Ney Rosauro. The grand finale will be the sensa-
tional and seductive Danzón No. 2 by Arturo
Márquez, Mexico's most popular composer living
today.
