The 2017 Belleville Area Historical
Society calendar is now available and has
beendiscounted to $5.
The calendars can be purchased at sev-
eral tri-community locations including,
Belleville Area Museum, Belleville Area
Chamber of Commerce, Belleville City
Hall, Garden Fantasy on Main, Sumpter
Ace Hardware, Sumpter Township, and
the Van Buren Township Hall Treasurer's
office.

Patriotic volunteers sought
Plymouth Township officials are seek-
ing volunteers to lead the Pledge of
Allegiance at the start of the regular meet-
ings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of
themonth at townshiphall.
Suggested qualifications include being
an active duty or retired military service-
man or woman, a member of a service or
Scouting organization, a retired first
responder, member of a student govern-
ment organization or a patriotic citizen.

Grief programunder way
A grief-recovery seminar and support
group will meet at Romulus Wesleyan
Church in Romulus at 6 p.m. on Thursdays
through May 18. The church is located at

GriefShare features nationally recog-
nized experts on grief and recovery topics.
The 13 video sessions include "Effects of
Grief," "When Your Spouse Dies," "Your
Family and Grief," "Stuck in Grief," and
more. Attend any or all sessions. A $15 reg-
istration fee will include a workbook/jour-
nal andweekly handouts.

Church hosts fish fries
St. Mary Catholic Church in Wayne is
hosting Lenten Fish Fries again this year.
The weekly Fish Fries will take place from
4-7 p.m. on Fridays for seven weeks
through weeks through Good Friday, April
14.
Dinners are $7 or $10 and include a
choice of fried or baked fish, shrimp din-
ner or Mac-N-Cheese. Each meal comes
with French fries or baked potato, cole
slaw, roll and lemonade, water or coffee.
Desserts and pop are available for an
additional charge. Take outs are available.

Night For Northville planned
A Night For Northville, a fundraising
event for the Northville Educational
Foundation, will take place from 7-11 p.m.
March 11 at Schoolcraft College VisTaTech
Center.
The evening will include video horse
racing, a $1,000 prize raffle, a silent auc-
tion, hors d'oeuvres prepared by college
culinary students and a cashbar.
The event is limited to those 21 and
older.
Tickets are priced at $50, $15 of which is
tax deductible, and includes "money" for
betting on races. In addition, attendees can
sponsor one of 144 race horses for $25,
name the horse and cheer it on to victory.
Horse sponsorships include a raffle ticket
for the $1,000 prize.

PlymouthAuthor Fair planned
The Plymouth District Library will
again host the annual Author Fair from 1-3
p.m. Saturday, March 11. Showcasing liter-
ary talent fromPlymouth and surrounding
communities, the Author Fair provides a
forum for authors to meet each other and
the reading public. Attendees will enjoy
browsing and conversation with a wide
variety of authors. Books will be available
for purchase and signing across various
genres and for all ages.

Famed architect is topic
Yamasaki in Detroit will be the topic of
a presentation by Free Press columnist
John Gallagher at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday,
March 14 at theWaynePublicLibrary.
Best-known for the World Trade Center
in New York City, Japanese American
architect Minoru Yamasaki (1912-1986)
worked to create moments of surprise,
serenity, and delight in distinctive build-
ings around the world. In his adopted
home of Detroit, Yamasaki producedmany
important designs that range from public
buildings to offices andprivate residences.
Gallagher will present both a biography
of Yamasaki and discuss select projects
spanning from the late 1940s to the end of
Yamasaki's life.

Blues at the Elks take place from 7-9:30

'Tested' documentary shown
A special screening of the documentary
Testedwill take place at 7 p.m. March 16 in
the Northville High School Auditorium,
45700 Six Mile Road, in Northville. The
film follows a dozen racially and socio-eco-
nomically diverse New York City eighth
graders as they compete for spots in one of
nine top-notch public high schools. Getting
in to one of these elite schools can change
a child's life, but the only way in is to ace a
single standardized test, called the
SpecializedHighSchool Admissions Test.
Admission to the March 16 screening is
free and open to all school families and

Kindergarten round up set
St. Michael Lutheran School at 3003

garten round-up at 5:30 p.m. Thursday,

Those with an annual household
income less than $54,000 may be eligible
for a free tax service available from 1-6
p.m. Wednesday, March 15 and again
March 22. The free tax service is provided
through the Wayne Metropolitan
Community Action Agency and will be
offered at theWaynePublicLibrary.

Leadership Luncheon planned
The Belleville Area Chamber of
Commercewill host a leadership luncheon
featuring speaker Thomas Dismukes from
11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 16 at the
Western Campus of Wayne County
Community CollegeDistrict.
There is no cost to attend the program
which will include Dismukes' famous
adventures skinning skunks in space suits
and lassoing wild beavers, sleeping in
dumpster in England and train stations in
Czechoslovakia.

sons.
