Veterans set Fish Frys
Plymouth VFW Post 6695 will host
Friday Night Fish Frys from 5-7 p.m.
every Friday night during Lent. The fish
frys will continue through March 30, with
the exception of Feb. 16.
Menu choices include cod, walleye,
shrimp or chicken strips. Dinners include
French fries, baked potato or macaroni
and cheese, cole slaw, roll and butter and
coffee.
There will also be 50-50 raffles during
the dinners.
The Plymouth VFW Post is located at
1426 SMill St. near Lilley Roar just north
of AnnArborRoad.
BlackHistory Bus Tour set
Four the fourth year, Romulus will
offer a Black History Bus Tour Featuring
Stops on theUndergroundRailroad.
Tour-goers will make stops around the
city, highlighting the rich history of
Romulus including sites that were loca-
tions for the Underground Railroad and
others that were important to the Civil
Rightsmovement.
The tour will take begin with boarding
of the bus at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 in
the Romulus City Hall parking lot. The
tour should last approximately 3 hours.
Anyone wishing to attend should regis-
ter by calling Mayor LeRoy Burcroff's
office at (734) 942-7571. Seats are limited
and early registration is advised.
For those not able to attend, a narrated
video of the tour is available on the city
YouTube channel and local Comcast
Cable.
Survey deadline extended
As part of the joint Plymouth
City/Township Recreation Master Plan,
the State of Michigan requires input from
individuals and groups who are users of
the recreation services.
Local officials have distributed a ques-
tionnaire, which can be accessed at
/Recreation-6/Recreation-Master-Plan-
Questionnaire-64.
The questionnaire will allow respon-
dents to share their thoughts about parks
and recreation in the city and township.
The response deadline has been extend-
ed toFeb. 18.
Fireman's Ball tickets on sale
The Northville Township Firefighters
Charity Fund will host the 15th Annual
Fireman's Ball from 6 p.m. until midnight
Saturday, Feb. 17 at Laurel Manor, 39000
Schoolcraft Road inLivonia.
Tickets are priced at $100 per person
and include dinner, drinks, and dancing
to livemusic fromtheKillerFlamingos.
There will also be a raffle, silent and
live auctions during the evening.

LegendShowplanned
Tickets are now on sale for the Legend
Show starring Neil Lawrence set to begin
with dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at the
Amvets Post 171Memorial Hall.
The showwill begin at 8 p.m. and there
will be a cash bar. Doors will open at 6:30
p.m.
Cost for the event is $20 per person and
tickets can be purchased in advance by

at the post lounge or at the door.
The show is a benefit for Amvets
Auxiliary #171 in Westland which spon-
sors veterans community service pro-
grams including Paws with a Cause,
Penrickton School, Veterans Haven in
Wayne, First Step for battered women
and children, Detroit and Ann Arbor vet-
erans groups and veterans and their fami-
lies in theWayneWestland community.

Student radio record showset
The 10th annual 88.1 Record Show is
set for 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb.
17 at theSalemHighSchool Cafeteria.
Thousand of vinyl records, CDs, import
only releases, t-shirts, posters and other
collectibles will be on display during the
event. Proceeds from the show will bene-
fit the nationally-recognized student radio
station operated by the Plymouth-Canton
Community Schools.
Admission to the record show during
normal show hours is $3. Collectors want-
ing an early start can gain early admission
between 9 and 10 a.m. for $5. Admission
for students at Canton, Plymouth and
Salem high schools is free with a student
ID.
The record show is one of the main
fundraisers for the station each year.

GoneWith The Breeze on stage
Inspire Theatre in Westland will pres-
ent Gone With The Breeze at 7:30 p.m.
Fridays and Saturdays Feb. 16, 17, 23, and
24 and at 3 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 18 and 25.
There is also a special 3 p.m. matinee
planned forFeb. 24.
When the nation hears that Lone Pine
Films is planning Gone with the Breeze
as its next picture, hundreds of aspiring
young actresses descend on the studio.
The divas make the burning of Atlanta
seem like child's play. One reigning studio
queen insists the part of the heroine,
Jezebel O'Toole, belongs to her and will
stop at nothing to get the part.

Foundation hosts casino night
The JORY Children's Foundation will
host aCasinoNight inMarch.
A bus will depart from the Romulus
Library Parking Lot at 4:15 p.m. March 24
and return at approximately 10:30 from
GreektownCasino.
The cost for bus transportation, $15 in
bonus play and a $5 food voucher is $40
per person. Tickets must be ordered in
advance, and all proceeds benefit the
JORY Children's Foundation, a tax-
exempt charity.

Animationworkshop available
The City of Plymouth Recreation
Department will offer a Stop Motion
Animation workshop for children ages 6-
15. This is a 3-hour class from10 a.m. until
1 p.m. onMonday, Feb. 19 at the Plymouth
Cultural Center, 525 Farmer St.,
Plymouth.
Students will be taught by Alex
Thomas, a professional stop-motion ani-
mator who worked on Cartoon Network
shows. He will explain animation tech-
niques such as speed, weight, timing, eas-
ing, and more through various mediums
and activities. Also included is a DVD of
all animation created by the students dur-
ing the workshop, a prize raffle and a
snack.
The cost is $69 for city of Plymouth res-
idents and $54 for non-residents.

Members of the Romulus Garden Club
have planned a chat meeting for 6:30 p.m.

Kickboxing classes offered
The City of Plymouth Recreation
Department will offer a Cardio
Kickboxing class designed for those 12
and older from 6:45 until 7:30 p.m.
through Feb. 28 at the Plymouth Cultural
Center.
All fitness levels and both men and
women arewelcome.
Please wear loose fitting clothes and
bring a water bottle. All minors must be
accompanied by a responsible adult. Cost
is $35 for City of Plymouth residents and
$50 for non-residents.

ChessClubmeeting planned
The Romulus Chess Club will meet
fromnoon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at
theRomulus PublicLibrary.
All ages are welcome and there is no
charge or registrationnecessary to attend.
Board will be provided although play-
ers can bring their own. This is an all-ages
program, but children must be accompa-
nied by an adult. There will be handouts
for those new to the game. This is not an
instructional program but experienced
players are welcome to help new players
learn the game.
The program is hosted in partnership
with the City of Romulus Recreation
Department.
