Six decades of service

Honored Citizens are life-long township residents

The Honored Citizens of the Sumpter Country
Festival this year have six decades of history and
service in the community.
The Krushlin family began their connection to
the township when Ernie and Ellen Krushlin mar-
ried in 1961 and celebrated their nuptials at the
local PNA hall.
The couple raised four children in their home
on Fenster Street and all four, Maryann, Marty,
John and Tom, attended Sumpter School, Elwell
School and graduated from Belleville High
School.
Ernie Krushlin describes service to the com-
munity as a family tradition. He served on the
Sumpter Volunteer Fire Department for more
than 30 years. Marty Krushlin served on the fire
department, too, for 5 years, Maryann Krushlin
