Special flag will be part of Ward Church float
When 20,000 plus cheering onlookers see the presenta-
tion by Ward Church in the Northville Community
Foundation Independence Day Parade this year, they will
understand why the church seems to be a perennial award-
winning entry.

Coordinator Tessie Wilson says she is especially excited to
be part of the team charged with planning the two patriotic
floats enteredbyWardChurch in the parade this year.
The flag that will fly on the one of the church floats was
presented to Wilson when her late husband, Navy Lt.
Commander Keith Wilson, a decorated Vietnam War veter-
an, passed away 10 years ago. This year, the parade theme,
Celebrating American Heroes, gave Wilson the chance to
honor her country andher husband at the same time.
“Our theme this year is very fitting, Land of the Free,
Because of the Brave said the 20 year church parishioner
and clinical nurse, now inhe fifth year as coordinator.
“A lot of thought went into the planning this year”
Wilson said one themed float will be called Spiritual
Heritage and will feature six presidents who signed the
Declaration of Independence. The second float will be a
military-musical float featuring a six-piece brass band with
uniformed soldiers from each of the six military branches
performing the theme songs for each branch. The float will
be decorated with a collage of pictures of Ward Church
members in activemilitary service.
