Merging Story
Unique Michigan-centric potters return to art show
Their name says it all: Merging
Story Pottery is the blending of two
unique styles of pottery art, each
expressing a narrative conveyed
through their creativework.
Their studio, located in Clarkson, is
owned by Marilyn Appleman and
Michael Arndt, who appropriately
enough met several years ago in a pot-
tery class. While Appleman has been
at her craft for about 17 years, Arndt
came to the art form about 7-8 years
ago after amusic career.
“We had two distinct styles of work
and when we were looking for a name
for the studio, Merging Story just
seemed to fit,” Arndt said. The couple
works in the same studio, side by side,
but do not actually work together on
their creative pieces.
The pair will bring their distinctive
work to Milford Memories for the 4th
year and will be found not too far from
their location last year.
“We enjoy Milford,” Arndt said. “It's
a great little village. Since we have
been coming to the art show, we make
it a point to come back to enjoy it once
or twice during the year. It's just a real-
ly quaint place.”
Arndt added that the Milford
Memories show is always successful
for the couple, unless the weather
doesn't cooperate. “It's such a well run,
well-organized event,” he said, “and
we have several return clients who
look for us there.”
Appleman and Arndt do not create
the traditional type of pottery, he said,
