carvings to see what they might want
done for display this year.
“We'll see what they want and give it
to them…within reason,” he said.
“We did the Svedka Ice Bar at E.G.
Nick's last year,” he said. “We'll do that
one again this year for sure. That's
always fun.”
Ditto said one of his most interest-
ing carvings was aworking bubble gum
machine for a client's son's birthday
party. He admitted it was a challenge
but he said that photos of the final
work posted on the company website
brought him to the attention of some
world-renown carvers.
“I'd have to say, that was my
favorite,” he said.
He has also done a full-size, 45-block
replica of the Ford Fusion for Ford
Motor Co., another challenge, he
added.
Ditto, now 39, is aWestland resident
and said while his wife and four chil-
dren appreciate his artwork, none of
them participate in his somewhat dan-
gerous occupation. He said he has
never been severely injured but has
been cut a few times, not by the saws,
but by the sharp edges on the ice.
Outside the Blox' work will be some
of the main attractions throughout
Kellogg Park during the Ice Festival
this year.
“This was always what I wanted to
do,”Ditto said.
