Kiwanis Club will serve annual pancake breakfast Saturday
They've been flipping pancakes at
The Gathering in downtown
Plymouth on the Saturday morning of
the Plymouth Fall Festival for
decades.
This year will be no different for
the Plymouth Kiwanis Club members
who will serve more than 12,000 pan-
cakes before noon onSept. 7.
Nearly as old as the festival itself,
the traditional All-You-Can-Eat-
Pancake Breakfast is served from 7
a.m. until noon at The Gathering and
usually draws about 4,000 hungry visi-
tors. Kiwanis members fill plates with
pancakes and sausages and offer
orange juice and coffee to drink, along
with theusual condiments.
“It is one of our major fundraising
efforts each year which assist us in
supporting many civic causes in our
community,” stated breakfast organiz-
er JimGrutza. “The needs of the vari-
ous charities we support have
increased in recent years. It would be
fantastic if even more folks came out
for our great, hot breakfast. We are
more than ready to serve everyone
that wants to come out onSept. 7.”
The tickets are $6 in advance and
are $7 on Saturdaymorning. Children
under 5 years old eat at no cost. Pre-
sale tickets can be purchased from
any Plymouth Kiwanis member, the
Kiwanis Popcorn Wagon in Kellogg
Park on Friday evenings and the
Charities Ticket Booth on Friday
evening during theFall Festival.
Grutza, of the Kiwanis Club of
Colonial Plymouth, said he strives to
make the breakfast fun for both the
volunteers and the families that come
out for the event. With the many years
of experience the club members have
preparing the batter, heating the grid-
dles and serving the hotcakes, they
have the operation down to a science.
They can serve the thousands of
breakfasts without any problem,
Grutza said, and they've seen and
worked out just about every problem
possible during the past years.
The Kiwanis members look for-
ward to helping out each year, he
added, because, although it is hard
work, it is all in good fun and the true
focus is to raise funds to support Mott
Children's Hospital, college scholar-
ships, Kids Against Hunger and many
other community services.
